Besides tourneys (mostly deep stacks), I play mostly 5/5 and 2/5 NL H/E. I also play Omaha H/L with friends.

I played in the WSOP Main Event in 2011...I busted late on day 3, about 800-900 spots away from cashing. It was an amazing experience. On day 2, immediately to my right was John Racener (2010 Main event runner up) and on day 3, I had some notable players at my table. To my right, was Rick Solamon (infamous for Paris Hilton sex tape--he also was briefly married to Pam Anderson and Shannon Doherty--or maybe he just dated Shannon?)...He was also one of those involved in the A-Rod/ Toby Maguire poker bust. Also, a guy who made a deep run in 2011 and 2012--Marc-Andre Ladoceur was at my table. He was heavily featured on ESPN's coverage this past year. Norman Chad was fawning all over him because he thought Marc-Andre was good looking. Marc-Andre was crippled in an all-in when he had AK and his opponent had AK and he was four-flushed. He made it to the final two tables.

Yeah i'm over NLHE. My main games are PLO8 and 2-7 Triple Draw. The only action I can find online though is PLO8 (until full tilt comes back). At my home games we play dealers choice, because we have a few calling stations that have ruined NLHE for the rest of us.

PLO8 and 2-7 triple draw are? lol. I may know the games but not the abbreviations.

Pot Limit Omaha 8 or better... 2-7 triple draw is similar to Razz but would take me a while to explain all the rules.

Pot Limit Omaha 8 or better. Meaning a pot can be split between a high and low hand. Straights and flushes don't affect the low hand. Best hand for the low is a the wheel. Can't have any pairs or cards higher than an 8 to capture the low.

2-7 triple draw is a game where you are dealt 5 cards and the goal is to form the worst hand possible. The best possible hand is 23457. Aces are high and flushes and straights count against you. This is a limit game and there are three rounds of draws. There is a variation known as 2-7 NL single draw, but i'm not a fan.

I play in a game with some guys I know at the local Elks club...we play NO LIMIT Omaha H/L 8 or better...yes, it is as stupid and crazy as it sounds.

This was a much better explanation than mine...I was too lazy to go through all of this.:)

Gothca. I don't know alot of the current games honestly. I know alot of the OG games that I learned from my father and his friends growing up. 7 card stud, follow the queen, jacks/trips, kmart game, etc. Haven't played any of them for a long time and not even sure the proper names.

Rant Warning-
The group my dad played with would play with change at their hunting cabin. Anything silver or single $1 bills were good, not sure if there was a max raise. Anyway, my dad made a killing one night which ended in a big jacks/trips game that was $100 in change in the middle til the game was over. Think he was $400+ up on the night which ended with the other guys breaking his "lucky chair" into pieces and burning it in the fire outside so he could never used it again. It's amazing the oddball things you remember from your childhood. FWIW it was always Molson Golden kegs on tap and I'm 90% sure the chair they broke and burned was metal.

That must get nuts! The reason people have trouble with PLO8/NLO8 is they play dumb starting hands and it ends up costing them a lot of money. If you can't get a nut hand you're gonna have a bad time.

The reason I moved to these other games was for the elusive search for an edge. When you can play against softer competition it can only benefit you. I also think they are more fun just because they are action games that generate far larger pot sizes.

Yes, it's crazy and I play with a bunch of calling stations...they all just try to suck out on the river by usually trying to make a low hand and at least chop the pot. It's very frustating actually because they get lucky a lot. They pretty much play like it's bingo and they usually get there.:bang:

I still prefer Hold Em and though I'm a solid Omaha player, Hold Em is my best game.

So how do we put together a board live tourney. I really want to do it but how?

I was playing the play money tables for about two months under LetsGoOrange until I moved to Seals. Once Fulltilt returns to NY, i'll be back.

Wait!! Are you saying that you can't even play for play money on full tilt in New York???

I've thought about signing back up again, I used to play all the time, had my certain table with people I meet on there...

I've been thinking about signing up again and trying to get people here to play.

You can, but now i'm playing for real money, so I stopped playing for fake money. Especially because of all the full tilt calling stations and the guys who go all in every hand because they know they can just reload their play chips.

Just folded top set in Omaha like a Boss. Saved myself about 21 bucks.

You know how we dealt with s like that?? Tell them off right there and if they came back we would all sit out and wait til they left. God I had fun on FTP, made a lot of friends.

I flopped quads at Turning Stone yesterday. Had pocket 4's , flop came Q,4,4 . Other guy was first to act , he kept on betting so i smoothly called him each card and won about 100 on the one hand.

I beat up a guy and stole $100.

I think the only way to do a board tourney is to do it around a big draw for the board, like maybe the Penn State game. I assume a fair amount of board people will be going to that game, so maybe hold it somewhere near the Meadowlands or in NYC that Friday. Maybe make it some sort of 50/50 fundraiser for a charity or something?

Like an Indoor Football Facility or something? ;)

While I am only a once in a while poker player, a good friend of mine is a professional and has placed in the top 100 of the WSP Main Event twice. Both times he was the first to one million chips and ended up with nice paydays both times. However, believe it or not he makes the most money playing online or just playing against every day guys who think they are good in casinos.

After all this talk about poker I think I am going to sign back up on full tit, under my username. Only seems right.

What game were you playing? $1-2 NL?

I'd love to set a tourney up---the problem is the when and where.

Count me in. Used to play at Turning Stone all the time when I lived in East Syracuse.

We should plan one out like 6 months in advance. I wonder if Turning Stone would let us rent a private room, and they get like 10% of the entry money or something?

I thought Full Tilt went bad?

If by bad you mean that it no longer offers real money poker then yes it is still bad.

If by bad you mean the Ponzi scheme, then no it is no longer bad, it was bought by Poker Stars and they are in the process of reimbursing every poker player for the money they lost on Black Friday.

If by bad you mean they don't offer play money games, they are pretty good for play money. A few tournaments every hour and loads of different games. They just added one called Irish which is pretty cool. It is like Omaha, but you discard two of your cards after the flop. Then play it like NLHE.
