Class of 2019 LB Khalib Gilmore (FL) TRANSFERRING FROM WEST FLORIDA TO SYRACUSE (4/4/23)

The University of West Florida is a D-II powerhouse. 2019 D-II national champs. Last season they lost in the national semis.

The kid played a bit as a R-Fr. Good pickup, if (and notice I said IF) only for depth. Could be HCDB and the staff saw something.

Good size and speed. Could play LB or Edge.

If he can play edge then this makes perfect sense.

Also could use a big running back imo. What we all hoped Josh Hough could have been. Allen, looks a bit on the light side; and the freshman are mites. A Gus Edwards or Najeh Davenport type would be a really nice addition.

I qualify this by pointing out that I know zero about this kid specifically. Thanks to Orange79 above for pointing out that West Florida is a powerhouse D2 program.

Every year, the NFL drafts a bunch of players from lower divisions, including D2. If you can play, they find you. Not saying that this kid has NFL potential -- just that [from the film] he seems to be a good athlete.

I agree that the coaching staff saw something that they liked. We're losing two starters [Wax and Thompson, I believe] after this season, so bringing players in makes sense.

Plus, at minimum LBs are great to have on special teams.

He only had 15 tackles in 2022, his fourth year at West Florida. I think he's a practice player / kick off coverage specialist. Which is great! All experienced players welcome!

I wonder if he’s a walk-on grad transfer.
His bio doesn't show anything for 2022, but their web site indicates he played in 6 games and made 17 tackles.

2022 was his fourth year on campus. Very plausible he will graduate this semester.

I think you are right.

Haha not every player is brought in to be a stud starter. Some guys are brought in for quality depth and special teams. This guy was definitely brought in to be a solid special teams guy and I’m sure he’ll be that and I’m sure he knows that

This is a strange pickup. We have a lot of depth at LB. Appear to be more bigger needs at other positions. OL
If it’s as a preferred walk-on I could care less.

If this is a scholarship add then uh, yeah, I would qualify a guy that’s been at a D2 school for 4 years and barely made an impact as strange…..

2021 (R-Fr.): Appeared in four games ... Made five tackles with three solos ... Had two stops against Southwest Baptist (9/11/2021) and Shorter (10/23/2021) ... Had a forced fumble at Mississippi College (10/30/2021).

2020: UWF did not compete against outside competition due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

2019 (Fr.): Redshirted.

PREP: Three-year varsity starter at Melbourne HS … Had 48 tackles, 3 pass break-ups and one forced fumble … Had three receptions for 57 yards … Participated in the Florida-Georgia HS Showcase.

According to HS highlights he played LB and safety mostly and even had a couple snaps as a CB. His HS hudl listed him as 6'-3" and 180 lbs. He is now 6-4" and 225 lbs according to West Florida website and 235 lbs according to his Twitter. He may have made some positional changes in college that slowed his playing time. He looks solid to me. I'm going to guess he fits McDonalds roll as they are very similar in size. Big LB who can also rush the passer but should also be good in coverage. Don't know anything about how McDonald is health wise. He looked good early then apparently played banged up all year when he could play.
This kid has two years of eligibility left. I'm cool with him as a scholly. He can certainly add to specials and helps depth at LB. We could easily be losing Stefon and Wax after this coming year. He could have some good upside. I think he looks solid on the college highlights below.

confusing add. I get that not everyone is a starter. I'd personally rather bring on a local kid that has the potential to maybe be a special teams player. Just seems odd if this is a scholly pick up. I hope he proves me wrong and kills it in Orange!

The 230lbs is the big factor for me. Hope he's a Jared Verse-like situation - Undersized out of HS, but was able to add a ton of good weight since then. Now, still has quickness, but coupled with good size.
