Robert Anae to NC State

Where did that happen?
Anae and Beck were hand picked by JW. JW said at his press conference at the end of the year certain things needed to happen and pointed out specifics. Anae and Beck were then hired and were exact examples of what he talked about in his interview. If I am not mistaken Dino even mentioned JW brought them together. Dino was given an ultimatum and not a choice. It was pretty obvious during the season from their side line interactions and from what Babers said in press conferences that they did not see eye to eye and did not get along. They did not work well together and they did not make each other better. They butted heads.

As quick as the Beck news came out, I definitely don’t think they are looking at Swaggy P or else wouldn’t they have let it leak in a similar fashion?
Maybe they were prepared for one but not the other?

No, I think Bronco called Dino with the recommendation. Wildhack did not hand pick them.

So after making the decision to resign his head-coaching position at Virginia, he called Dino Babers with a recommendation he ought to take a hard look at an offensive coordinator now available for hire.
Mendenhall’s thinking: Robert Anae would be a good fit based on how Babers runs his program, the preferred style of play and a capability to maximize the widgets to field a productive offense in short order.
Before Mendenhall called, Babers had already taken an interest in Anae, who had GA’d under Babers’ coaching mentor Dick Tomey at Hawaii and worked at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas alongside Buzzy Preston, another trusted friend in the profession.

You don’t ask a coach to leave but then have him out recruiting for the team. That doesn’t make sense.

Not only that but how does one even take him self seriously when he knows he's gone? What exactly is he trying to tell a kid at this point?

For you old folks the strip joint was a popular bar called the Paradise Saloon. Lost z horizon got some big time rising names. The Romantics, The Police and others.
No the Police played at the Firebarn

You guys are crazy if you are happy about this. Look up Anae’s success as an offensive coordinator. I think Beck is a good one and will be successful but Anae was successful for the past 15 years. He has been there and done it. For people to say they were not impressed or it’s no big deal are selling him short. First year running the offense and it was the best offense we have had in years. Not to mention Dino was tinkering with it and didn’t allow him to run all his stuff. Anae is arguably a top 15 OC in the country.

Black Flag, Fugazi, Merciful Fate, Johnny Winter, Motörhead, Type O Negative, Faster pussycat are some off the top of my head. There’s a lot more. I think The Police played near sky top or something. I’d much rather talk about this than Dino’s coaching staff exodus…

Do we have evidence Dino was tinkering with it though?

I think Anae is good, but some calls aren’t great this year and he tends to overthink. Beck has massive potential.

I do agree the whole we told Anae to move on is pure copium.

Wrong

I wish we could have some type of announcement from Dino or even JW, like a SUFB State of the Union or something. Not sure if there would be any more press conferences at this point though so I’m assuming radio silence.

Actually they also played Uncle Sam’s and the Carrier Dome 79-82. I was at the Dome concert. I was mistaken on the Lost Horizon.

Compared to who?

Compared to guys you have a good feel for the game, call good plays at good times, who don’t destroy their offensive line and running game and who don’t go under center to call toss sweeps on 3rd and goal from the inch line after butchering the first two play calls to begin with.

Anea was worlds better than Gilbert but still nothing great. The offense held the team back this year.

I don’t know the back story but it does seem weird that Dino would throw his new OC under the bus in at last two press conferences

Later in the season.

But my wrong post was about how we got Anae and Beck.

Was Uncle Sam’s that dance club on Erie Blvd?
