"Extremely strong" = a bunch of mediocre teams beating each other.
I think that the B1G was considered incredibly strong at the beginning of the season, with MSU and OSU being rated in the top 2 early on, but the entire conference has tapered. The strength of the conference is parity, but they completely lack top end teams. Maryland is the best of an otherwise subpar lot. Traditional powers like Michigan, MSU, Purude, Wisconsin, etc. are all struggling.
Michigan has the same record as SU [14-9], and are ranked #24 -- just for basis of comparison. They started out great in OOC [although one of their "big" wins was over a highly ranked UNC team, and we know that they were substantially overrated given how the season has unfolded].
