UNLV Loses Coach after 1 week on the job...

Things were looking so great at the beginning of this season that it's hard to imagine this is going on right now. Amazing. On the positive end of the spectrum tickets will be cheap.

I don't get it, do you want to live in Vegas, or Lubbuck Tx, hmmm tough call.
As i read it, his family is in Texas, he coached there before and UNLV is fighting with the state for money. I guess it took weeks for them to get salary approval for him and assts.

I guess, Texas Tech is a really hard job, Unlv should be an easy sell to kids.

Not really...Besides the casinos (which you must be 21 to play and drink), there is not a whole lot there...harder to sell to parents though because of the gambling, etc.

UNLV has not been relevant for years...

There is plenty of things to do out there if you are under 21, what is there to do in Lubbuck Tx? Unlv hasn't been great since Tark left, but with the right coach they could be.

Hey UNLV, here's a suggestion, when you're hiring the second highest paid employee (after football, of course) at your university, get that damn board together to ratify the contract a little sooner than 11 days after a verbal agreement is reached. Idiots.

Was there for almost fours years with a 4-8 year old...Unless you go to the casinos...there is not a lot of non-casino entertainment...

Can't answer for Lubbock as I have never been there...but as a parent if I would rather my child go to Texas Tech rather than UNLV...

In my opinion, Las Vegas is good place to visit, but not to live...much better places in my opinion...

Ever been off the strip?

I'm sure parents would rather them go to Texas Tech, but at the end of the day, most of the time anyway, its up to the kid.

Yes...lived off the strip...north Las Vegas...why?

There's your problem, North Las Vegas is awful.

I don't know how long ago you lived here but everything you said about Las Vegas is just simply untrue. There is a lot going on here for everybody, kids, families, and singles.

I've lived here for a year and outside of South Florida this has to be one of the best places I could imagine living. Bike rides and hiking through Red Rock, Mount Charleston, Lake Mead is beautiful to go boating on, the best restaurants all in one place in probably the world. LA is not a far drive, San Diego is a very inexpensive and very short flight away. I guess my question is, what is the city missing that most cities do? Coming from living in Syracuse the past 5 years before I moved to Vegas, West Palm for 7 before that and growing up in Syracuse my entire life before that, outside of Miami Beach and Syracuse Basketball I can't think of one thing I'd take from those cities and put here that Vegas doesn't already have. The private schools are amazing here, the athletes coming out of the valley here are just amazing.

I just bought a house in Southern Highlands, not sure if they were building that while you were here but it's beautiful with its breathtaking views, Summerlin is very nice as well.

What's even worse was it was only a $1,000,000 buyout. Just awful awful management.

Rice wasn't a great coach, but holy hell could he recruit. I think their biggest mistake was letting Rice go.

Lived in North Las Vegas for about a year and half before moving on base...was stationed at Nellis...since I didn't want to drive 30-45 minutes or more back and forth to the base didn't have much choice other than the northern part...

I figured you were near or on base. Yes, that area is tough for activities and I can see why you didn't enjoy it here. Not sure when you were here either, I haven't been here for a long time but about a year so far. I've been told it's changed a lot the past few years after the economy got better but working at Nellis would be a nightmare commuting from anywhere but NLV.

I have been to Southern highlands and that is extremely nice. Certainly not the norm out there but it is great living if you can afford it.

Some of it's really expensive but there are some "affordable" places. The house I had in Syracuse was cheaper but I'm paying about the same because the taxes here are extremely reasonable.
