NYT on Carolina cheating

Like I said, you all will believe what you want and your mind is already made up so trying to engage in any kind of meaningful discourse is a waste of energy and will prob be fruitless. Needless to say the national media has been clueless to the actual facts of this case for a long long time and this nyt article is just hype generated on final four weekend, and does nothing but continue to parrot blatant lies that is only worthy of some second rate rag paper. Quite unfortunate.

But as I said unc has some heavy hitters on their side who by the time this is over will expose the NCAA hypocrisy for what it is and a field day will be had. Until then, you all can keep believing what you'd like.
Classic Watergate-like non-denial denial. Let us know when you want to provide some real counterarguments as opposed to 'national media', 'NYT', 'blatant lies', :blah::blah::blah:
All this shows me is how In the dark you are about what unc has or has not had to endure the past 9 years. Also, I may not be remembering correctly but wasn't syracuses issue a strictly basketball one? If so I can assure you that's probably more egregious than anything unc basketball has actually done-which is what I'm referring to when I talk about this stuff-unc basketball.
Thanks for all the fact-based rebuttals you provided in this thread. My mind has certainly been changed.

I have no intention of changing anyone's mind. Just know that this thing isn't gonna end the way the nyt or the n and o are telling you it will-or the way you might be hoping. Anyways, peace. Gotta go win another natty.

You purposely didn't include everything and what you highlighted changed with the findings related to Deborah Crowder etc. prompting a new set of allegations.

Minding the Coach

It is you that needs to have an open mind. You are starting with the result you want and working backwards to find what will substantiate your conclusion. Your belief
that since the NCAA cleared UNC once based on incomplete info that it provides eternal immunity regardless what else is discovered or in fact revealed, shows the closed mindset you have. You are basing your defense on double jeopardy rationale. With the crazy NCAA , who knows, it could work if they want it to. I have little faith in the NCAA for doing the right thing, having any consistency or a sense of proportion in it' rulings, so it's useless to come to our site and defend UNC. No sympathy here after SU being raked over the coals by the NCAA. So my advice is don't bother trying.

I met a guy at a dinner party once who said no one did more with less than Dean Smith, then he cried.

Happy to see that same fella found this site.

Ironically next to Oregon you're the clean program in tonight's game.

Good luck I am rooting for UNC (seriously).

there is only one truism about the ncaa ,they HATE syracuse and jim boeheim. hell they even gave the womens team a going over. we are the modern day unlv

i liked the article except the sleeping class part which i feel is literacy license w/o reference support. i would like to have taken that class that was cancelled sounded interesting.
one poster said that unc should be given the death penalty. under normal circumstances i would agree. however psu did not get the death penalty for the most egregious acts of institutional violations and endangerment in the history of sports.
imho, that was a precedent setting non penalty, in light of such there should never be another death penalty

everybody in the NCAA universe knows what happened at north carolina. the scope of this scandal is widespread and has been well covered. still the NCAA and the administration drag their "TAR HEELS " like it was all good.
it's so simple that even a UNC athlete can grasp the concept. kid doesn't go to class. kid gets high grade.
that whole sports program needs a big punch in the face to punish past practice and discourage future scams.

SMH, you couldn't even do this reply right. You aren't on the team.

LOL. I had great respect for Dean. Great coach, seemed like a good guy. I liked his calm demeanor and the way his teams played. But yeah, they were always loaded. More with less? Completely ridiculous.

As much as I hate UNC for getting away with far more egregious systemic academic fraud than what we got pounded for, that was a hatchet piece.

Did they actually call somebody a "Man Friday?"
A hatchet piece? Really? And what is your undergraduate degree (and maybe advanced degrees) in?

Because the piece seemed extremely well written and, more importantly, well SOURCED, to me.

Unc has the best lawyers in the country working on this. There's literally no point in me trying to debunk most of the garbage in that article because people are going to believe what they want to believe. But don't be surprised when this is all said and done if the NCAA aren't the ones looking like the real "criminals".
I couldn't agree with you more, Unctar88.

I presume you're connected in some way to NC?

Well, if there are not severe penalties handed down to the NC basketball program by the NCAA, including but not limited to forfeiture of a few NCAA championships, the NCAA will almost certainly face a HUMUNGOUS LAWSUIT from not just Syracuse University and Jim Boeheim, but probably a couple of other member schools who were similarly screwed over by a vengeful NCAA chairman and board. And the outcome just might mean the DEMISE of the NCAA in toto.

Oh, that's not what you meant? So sorry.

I think it was another case of the NCAA taking way too long to rule on anything and the time they held you all hostage was probably punishment enough for whatever the ridiculous infraction your player or program committed. So in essence, I think it was probably a joke. Taking away boeheims wins is ridiculous.
Thanks for that, anyway. It's nice to know you are not a hypocrite at least, even if we disagree about the sanctions UNC ought to face.

Really?

You're back in hypocrite territory, son.

Yawn. That's so ridiculous it barely deserves a reply. You guys enjoy the self righteousness while you can. In the end the last laugh won't be on unc I can almost guarantee you that.
Well, that depends on how long we all live to GET that last laugh.

Future lawsuits could drag out into the late 2020s or even 2030s. I'll be 70 in 2030. How old will you be, Unctar?

I mean chronologically of course. You act rather like a bratty 9 year old child of not very good attorneys.

Walter Byerz @WalterByerz
That NC AG was Roy Cooper, the current NC Governor.

The Governor & Cheshire are UNC grads. He will authorize UNC to sue the NCAA. https://twitter.com/walterbyerz/status/840492335918174212 …

4:20 AM - 11 Mar 2017
I was rather surprised to learn Gov.Cooper is a Democrat. But pleased when Wikipedia stated he not only helped uncover corruption in a district attorney's office there, but ruled in favor of the Duke lacrosse team when some players were by all the evidence FALSELY accused of rape.

Most women don't make up rape accusations but when they do the guys SHOULD be either found not guilty or better yet not prosecuted in the first place!

So maybe he will lead a fair investigation of the UNC academic scandal or at least recuse his office and get a neutral party in to do the investigation. Preferably one from out of state.

That report is not easy to read on an iPhone but I saw probably at least three typos or other mistakes just in the first paragraph, part of which you highlighted.

Embarrassing.

happy to have you hear and rooting for you both in the game (#goACC) and against the NCAA to be honest. there are a number of posters on this board and in this thread and who are more than willing and able to have most intelligent discourse esp on this subject. you wont find a more interested fanbase in the outcome and we dont care much for your "enemy" in that fight.

it looks to me like you have some great breaking technicality that will make this go away. if so, big ups to you!

a couple of real questions I'd like your answers to: TIA

- what is this technicality all about and how does it fold the case?
- were there "inappropriate" classes? if so, what should be done about it at this time?
- what do you think the end result of all this will be?

again, go win Monday. hell, even we beat Gonzaga last year...

Guy from the NCAA that wrote the email probably got his degree from UNC.

Here's some hilarious irony - UNC's heavy hitters are none other than BS&K (Bond Schoeneck & King). Folks in Syracuse should be very familiar with the firm- it's a Syracuse firm. They've been the University's counsel for decades I believe. They also were front-and-center for such recent matters as the Bernie Fine mess and our own recent issues with the NCAA. I thought CTO recently intimated that the University was in the process of ending the relationship.

Also, that "Walter Byerz" twitter account is a fake account for the first executive director of the NCAA, who has almost be dead now for 2 years.

I don't know what to make of that email posted, which is interesting. I guess my two general thoughts are that e-mails like that are not the "get out of jail free" cards that people tend to think they are, and that it's possible that is simply an internal opinion sent amongst UNC's own compliance officers. Notice how it's not addressed to anyone with an @unc.edu e-mail address (or something similar).

I'm not going to pretend to understand all the nuances of this investigation. So what are you asserting is afoot?

NCAA witch hunt
Media conspiracy
Rogue administrator(s)
Something wrong involving UNC athletes, but excluding UNC men's hoops
Nothing wrong
Defective cans
