maybe 1 of you fancy guys can post the ballot and let’s keep HOF discussion out of the Hot Stove thread.

I’ve never, ever heard Thome and steroids, but it doesn’t matter...Piazza is in so the steroid door is open.

Let’s see who you’d vote for and who gets in this year.

Vote up to 10.

Vlad
Hoffman
Chipper
Thome
Bonds
Clemens
Mussina
Kent
Vizquel

And in a tough battle for my 10th...Schilling over Sheffield and McGriff.

I think the top 4 get in.

Bonds, Clemens, Vlad, Chipper, Sheffield, Manny, Edgar, Thome, Hoffman, Vizquel

Don’t care about roids. Pretty much whole league was on them, so it equals out. Bonds is the best player I’ve ever seen.

I love Johan, I don't think he did it long enough to get my vote. Here's my 10 (not necessarily ranked in order

Bonds
Clemens
Vlad
Moose
Chipper
Thome
Walker
Schilling
Manny
Edgar

I think? Sheffield, Sosa, Hoffman, these guys should all make it too.

I think some of the 'roid guys will get closer this year, due, in part, to Joe Morgan's asinine letter. As if the voters aren't already aware of the allegations. As always, Morgan is self-serving in his opposition, and I think there could be a bit of a backlash against the old scold. Just as long as Schilling doesn't get in. Why? Because I can't stand him.

V. Guerrero
T. Hoffman
M. Mussina
C. Jones
E. Martinez
J. Kent
J. Thome
M. Ramirez
O. Vizquel

Not a very good motorcycle rider either.

BUT NOBODY CAN BE UNANIMOUS HOW DARE YOU SPOIL THE SANCTITY OF THE GAME
If Ken Griffey Jr. wasn’t unanimous I doubt anyone will be.
Some pissed off Marlins reporter will leave Jeter off.
Some Murray Chass wannabe somewhere will leave Rivera off.
The BBWAA is cauldron of old white men who take this HOF voting like its the most important thing on earth

Rivera > Griffey Jr.

Not sure I agree.
Griffey’s position is way more valuable.
Rivera’s value is enhanced by the team he was on.
He is the best alltime at his position but the closer position is contingent on having the lead to close.
Griffey got 99.2% which is the record.
I tend to think Griffey Jr. Is a bit overrated. Great career crest, very popular and beloved player. I think the steroid era helped him become a foil to the juicers.

The key to your post is that Rivera was the best all-time at his position.

Right. Imagine if Griffey played CF for the Yankees in the mid-late 90s, how he would be viewed in these discussions?

The unanimous vote thing is so stupid. Like, imagine seeing Randy Johnson or Rickey Henderson or Willie Mays on a HOF ballot and essentially voting no?

Totally agree. The whole argument "If so and so wasn't unanimous, then nobody should be unanimous" just drives me crazy. So two wrongs make a right???

Ha not 2 wrongs, but it's been about 100 wrongs by now.

I will say, if you don't vote for a guy like Jeter or Mariano right now, and instead vote for one of the other qualified candidates, I can see the idea of strategic voting. Jeter is gonna make it, help someone else out. But to not vote for a guy like that and also not use all 10 votes, bad idea.

He’d be off the ballot Bernie and Posada...

Seriously though, he was the best ‘player’ I saw for about 13 years. If I walk into a bar gunfight with Rivera in my holster and the other guy has Griffey...it’s a draw.
