Kentucky doesn’t have a cake walk through the SEC like they use to have. Multiple teams in the SEC now recruit and play basketball at a high level. It’s harder to win at Kentucky than it’s ever been. That said if they get Hurley they’d be a monster again.

JB’s last 5 years are the gift that keeps on giving.

I won’t. JB said and did some real head scratching things his last 5 years. I choose to remember his brilliant first 40 years as head coach.

Veteran leader is the key phrase here. This team was rudderless last season. We need a player or players to keep the team together and discipline.

MLB has never had drastic roster turnover year after year. SU basketball is consistently losing their best players that have eligibility remaining. That’s a problem for a program that has poor roster management.

He realizes that regardless what the coaches say he was penciled in at the 5 for next year.

Great move on his part. He recognizing that Syracuse coaching staff is incapable of assembling a complete roster. Hopefully Red breaks the decade long trend but I wouldn’t bet on it.

They’ve played hard on D since he stepped foot on campus. Now they have figured out the offensive side too. They could rattle of two or three more titles if he’s able to keep the core intact.

This^ I couldn’t care less about any post season tournament other than the big dance. I’d rather just be done so the coaches can hammer recruiting and the portal. The off-season will make our break next season. A few more meaningless games against average teams has zero benefit in my opinion.

It’s a tail of two teams. Great call by Red to give Benny the heave ho. Unfortunately it looks like in was a day late and a dollar short. At least we show real progress.

Perhaps they should drop all none revenue generating programs from every school then. That will free up the money to pay the labor.

Pitino has brought three different teams to the final 4 and won 2 championships. He has a proven track record. Also St John’s has been garbage this century. Not exactly apples to apples.

I hope I’m wrong but the trajectory of this program has been a steady decline that continues today and will more than likely continue into the future seeing how we have changed next to nothing.

It looks exactly like the previous years to me except a crappy man defense instead of a crappy zone. Offense, inbound plays, substitution, basketball IQ and team discipline look like carbon copies to previous years. Go figure when 3 of 4 coaches helped build the previous teams.

Five years in the transfer portal and NIL era? If he isn’t on the bubble or better in year two we should move on but I recognize he will get three.

What excuse are you going to make next year. Let me guess, injury, transfers, suspension, teams young, Reds only been head coach for two years, bla bla bla. It’s been the same story for 10 years and it will be the same story next year.

This program has had gaping holes in the roster for a decade. I’m not holding my breath they magically become decent roster managers.

Unfortunately this has become a pattern here. Come to Syracuse where we will play you out of position and make you look like a fool because we can’t figure out how to manage a roster. It has made watching SU basketball a chore like doing the dishes or mowing the lawn.

Our lateral quickness on defense has been a problem for years. Ball carriers have easily penetrated our zone and man defense. Every defense is doomed to failure when that happens.

College basketball and the SU program has changed in the half century since JB was named head coach.

SU shouldn’t have a 1st time head coach in basketball ever. Especially one that no one else has ever considered for the role. Do you think SU is just smarter than everyone else?

Exactly. This board is blinded by their loyalty to them as players to be able to objectively view them as coaches. You see this with parents in youth sports all the time.

Sometimes the best thing you can do for a young man is to move on. Wish him the best and walk away. JB and Red have each given him multiple chances. What he needs we obviously don’t have.

I’d rather watch pickup games at the downtown Y than this team. They play with more heart and discipline there than this SU team.

We have issues everywhere on this team. The program is a tire fire and has been for a while.
