12 in latest CFP

Anyone else notice the “crickets” and dead air after they said Syracuse. Reece almost sounded like he was expecting some commentary but no one bit. Typical, no respect.

That and DH Herbie also got his shot in saying NDs win against Cuse would be PERCEIVED as a big one bc if our ranking but USC would be the game. DB.

Northwestern lost to Akron. Notre Dame, Duke.
Pitt lost to UCF, Penn State and Notre Dame.
I do think Pitt will get ranked if they beat Wake and Miami but Northwestern is clearly overrated.

NW is flat out overrated. Pitt is better but these but lovers love Fitzgerald.

The narrative everywhere is that the ACC is awful this year and everyone in the ACC is overrated. Including Clemson.

I'd love to beat WVU to defend this bad boy:

I don't think the Schwartzwalder Trophy would be on the line for the game. If I do remember correctly, when we played the Geno Smith led WVU team in the Pinstripe bowl it wasn't on the line because it would overshadow the bowl trophy. Maybe that would change but I doubt it as the Peach Bowl would want the focus on it being their "prestigious" trophy.

I didn't know that. I would think the schools could do it quietly behind the scenes just for fun.

nc st not losing to wake would have helped us a ton.. in theory had they won out they probably get to 10 and we could have had 2 top 10 wins in the end which no one else would have had.

They would have 10 wins, which would definitely help, but a close win over Wake at home probably would have dropped them below Florida and PSU this week anyway due to SOS which means even had they reached 10-2 by the final poll, they likely wouldn't be Top 10 in the rankings unless a LOT of chaos happens between now and then. Top 15 for sure, but unlikely Top 10. Now, of course, we will never know. Just hope BC doesn't lose to FSU this weekend.

Cheers,
Neil

If we beat ND i am still not seeing how we move up passed 10th right now. Would have to take care of business against BC and let things shake out in front of us too. A 2 loss Syracuse with a huge win against ND to make them 9-2... I don't think you can put them ahead of 1 loss teams, even with a monster win like that.

Was extended recently and large buyout

His buyout is $7 Million before Feb 2019. Then drops $1 Million every year. Which large state crazed football school would balk at $7 million between now and February?

A year ago this month, Campbell agreed to a six-year contract with a total of $22.5 million. Campbell will make $3.5 million this season, a jump from the $2.1 million he made initially.

So the buyout drops from the $7 million by $1 million each February, except for a $2 million drop in the final decrease of the contract.

Year-to-year buyout totals
Before Feb. 1, 2019: $7 million
Before Feb 1., 2020: $6 million
Before Feb 1., 2021: $5 million
Before Feb 1., 2022: $4 million
Before Feb 1., 2023: $2 million

Hopefully, Cinci beats UCF this weekend and I'd be surprised if OSU beats Michigan next weekend. If we take care of business, we should end up around 8 or 9.

Right I am just saying for this week though. If chalk happens outside of us beating ND... I don't see them falling passed 5th, and I don't see us moving passed 10th.

Next week would be the real key

if we beat ND they fall next week to 7-9. ND is living off the Mich win, so we would trump that and we would have a better loss than them too. if LSU can stay at 7 off beating GA and losing to FL then us beating ND and losing to Clemson is better . WSU will have nothing to compare and OSU has only a 4 loss win over MSU.

we will jump to 7-8 for a week..

nd has pitt to compare to us and that was at home and we lost on the road in OT. we both beat wake and both beat FSU. nc st beating wake and they would be at 13 right now. it would also help if NW would lose 1 more time and fall out completely because nc st winning the last 3 and being 9-3 would get them back in.

If SU defeats ND, they would jump: LSU, WSU, CFU, OSU, and Notre Dame. And anybody ekse that loses this week, like WVU.

I respectfully disagree.

Don't see how #12 'Cuse with 2 losses would jump 1 loss Ohio State, 1 loss ND who is currently 3rd, or 1 loss WSU.

I can't imagine ND losing to a top 12 team would fall past 5th or MAYBE 6th.

We'll see how it all shakes out when the Orange kick #$%ing ass this weekend.

There is CRAZY talk, which I myself indulge in from time to time. And then there is this - NFW talk. ;)

The only Top 6-10 team that is in any danger of losing this week is WVU @ Okla. State. The rest are either facing cupcakes this week or are in the Top 5 and unlikely to fall totally out of the Top 10., including ND who still has the Michigan win on their resume and don't have a loss to a Pitt caliber team that we do.

A win over ND allows us to jump UCF this week, even if they beat Cincy. That's it, unless the Eers lose. However, let's say we aren't Top 10, beat ND and then follow that up with a win over BC next week and we likely enter the Top 10 since there is a good shot of at least two to three top ten teams from this week lose next week - OU @ WVU; Mich @ OSU; ND @ USC; LSU @ TAMU; and WSU vs Wash at home.

Cheers,
Neil

We won't jump anyone if we beat ND except UCF and teams that lose that's it. The committee would wait till the last poll to jump us over ND like they did in 2014 with TCU and Baylor.

but i answered your initial question right? id feel much more secure if dino was signed to a comparable contract.

campbell last year before signing his deal is actually a great comparison to dino. hopefully we get the same result.

Right that's been my argument

Notre Dame is at this point considered a lock for the playoffs. That means if Syracuse beats them, they are knocking them out of the playoffs and I believe that would give Syracuse a big jump in the computer models which the committee can not ignore.

LSU has 2 losses and beat Georgia they are behind Georgia in the rankings.
WVU, OU, Wazzu, Ohio State will all stay ahead of Syracuse if we win assuming they all win as well.
I would expect ND to fall down to around 7-8 and Syracuse would be 11 until the following week.

Kind of hard to believe that a team like LSU that got beat 29-0 at home is even in this ranking. Or WSU who's best win is Utah. OSU's best win is over Penn St and they got wood sheded by Purdue 49-20.

How is that different from us, whose best win is against an unranked opponent? And Wazzou only lost once.

How do you think Syracuse would fare at Bryant-Denny?
