Northwestern lost to Akron. Notre Dame, Duke.
Pitt lost to UCF, Penn State and Notre Dame.
I do think Pitt will get ranked if they beat Wake and Miami but Northwestern is clearly overrated.
I think Pitt > Northwestern this year, but the Cats have won 12 of their last 13 B1G games. They can play a little.

They haven't played Ohio State the last 2 years. They have played Penn State last year and Michigan this year at home and lost both.
They are taking advantage of playing in the equivalent of the ACC Coastal without having to play Clemson. They did beat Wisconsin this year but they are down because their QB is out for the season.

Northwestern is not the same team this year they were last year. This team is 0-3 in nonconference games losing all 3 AT HOME. I get Notre Dame is good but Pitt beat Duke at home. Northwestern lost by 2 TDs to Duke at home.
They are extremely overrated at 22 in this poll. I can't see why they are ranked and a team in a P5 league with a better record and beat them at their place like Duke isn't ranked.
Pitt is 6-4 with losses to #3 ND, #11 UCF, #14 Penn State and beat #12 Syracuse. I can't see how anyone on that committee could say let's rank Northwestern but not Pittsburgh.

I think it's Fitz Love plus the fact NU has tallied three 10-win seasons since 2012. They've been a pretty consistent winner.

How is that different from us, whose best win is against an unranked opponent? And Wazzou only lost once.

How do you think Syracuse would fare at Bryant-Denny?
We haven't gotten beat bad by anybody and we went into death valley and were 30 seconds from a win. Also LSU was home and Wazzou SOS is low. Also this is after we would have defeated the no.3 undefeated NOTRE DAME FIGHTING IRISH.

Notre Dame is at this point considered a lock for the playoffs. That means if Syracuse beats them, they are knocking them out of the playoffs and I believe that would give Syracuse a big jump in the computer models which the committee can not ignore.
The committee can absolutely ignore computer models. They have made it clear they want good wins and they use the eye test.

The closer we get to the top the harder it is to move. The Pitt loss is haunting us right now.

LSU has a good win so they stay at 7 everyone else after that has nothing so likely just lumped together.

if we win then we have the best win of the teams after Mich and that includes GA. Hard to leave 2 loss LSU ahead of us with a better win and both teams losing to 1-2 although we lost on the road and them at home.

Pitt winning again makes them almost a push with FL again ours in OT

I hear people talking about Pitt. They are a very strong team with not 1 but 2 NFL running backs. I think they will win their last 2 and end up top 20. As far as the committee goes, when they are weighting wins and losses, do they look at our Pitt loss and see that the field goal kicker had a statistically anomalous performance? If we didn't have to play Clemson, 1 of the 2 superpowers, we would probably have 1 loss. First we have to win that game though,

I'm trying to understand your point, and that of several other posters. Do you want us, fans alumni, etc., to not have any dream of an unlikely trip to the playoffs? This team deserves just as much as any other team.

I want fans to understand that we need to win these next two games and let everything else sort it self out. I am not going to all of a sudden get delusional thinking beating ND will jump us up passed certain 1 loss teams. The Pitt game, if we win against ND and BC, is going to haunt our dreams for years.

However I love your passion and fully respect you. Us getting into the playoffs sits at like a 1 percent chance. We need chaos and to do our job.

So we could have an FCS team on the schedule this week, as many SEC teams do, and that win would get us the same as the win over ND? If the Orange win they should at least be ahead of LSU.

i could agree with that, we could and probably should jump LSU with a win saturday, just not teams like oklahoma, wvu, wsu, or ohio state.

I think it’s the fact that NU clinched the B1G West. The committee needs ranked teams in the conference championship games.

Why is it that anytime people try to be objective and look at things the way people outside of SU fandom see them, you accuse them of trying to crush other fans' dreams? What most of us want and what we think is likely to happen are not always the same thing.

And you're wrong. This team does not deserve as much as any other team. We have two losses. Other teams have fewer. If we had beaten Pitt and Clemson we would absolutely deserve as much as every other team because our record and resume would be as good as or better than everyone else's. If everyone ahead of us right now end up with 2 losses at the end of the season that reality will change, but that is not going to happen.

Agree with your argument and wisky is overrated as they normally are.

Not sure style points matter this time of tear, teams need tolose. We arent better than LSU. Look at their schedule. I also don't think we are better than Florida, but we will take it.

In your zeal to enforce the debbie downer dream crusher group think that is rampant here, you have done a weak analysis of the current rankings. There are 2, 2-loss teams, the Orange and LSU. LSU is ranked ahead of a number of 1 loss teams because of their win against Georgia. Their 2 losses 37-19 at FLA and 29-0 at home to ALA are much worse than Syracuses' 2 losses and that win against Georgia was at home while if the team does it, the SU win against Notre Dame will be on a somewhat neutral field and it will be late in the season when things really count. So yes, if the coaches have a strong plan and the team executes that plan with few errors and the Orange get a victory Saturday at Yankee stadium in the Bronx, NYC, they will leap a number of 1 loss teams and will be a very live underdog to make the playoffs.

My oh my.

How the hell is Kentucky still ranked, and being 17th is a joke. They got beat up on both sides of the ball last week against a below average Tennessee team. Before that, they got thumped by Georgia, and they were given gift phantom calls to beat Missouri. They have almost no ability to score, we would beat them by 35 points. Pitt would destroy KY.

The logic and analysis is solid, and you know it. I'm looking for every reason to believe it's possible, while others lock in the opposite direction. That could come straight from a coach Babers sermon, .

Including a win that hasn't happened when comparing us to another 10-2 team with an existing win over the 5th ranked team is not good analysis. Claiming that losses to the number 1 and 13 teams are not better than losses to the number 2 and an unranked team because of point differential is not good analysis either.

If you want to include our losses to good teams as good because they were close you have to also include our close win against a really bad UNC team as not good. Don't cherry pick the facts that only support your delusion. Instead of deciding what you want reality to be and finding only the evidence to support it, look at all of the evidence to arrive at a balanced conclusion. I know that's probably asking a lot of you.

We are currently ranked fairly and much higher than most of us expected when we were 0-0. A win saturday strengthens our resume but we need things to happen in front of us that are out of our control to make anymore significant moves, which, as someone else pointed out, is more likely next week.

Everything there is reasonable. Except the delusion part. If I had wrote in the beginning of the year that we would be 8-2 with a chance to get into the playoffs, I would have taken an endless drubbing of insults as to my mental state, and yet that would have been true.

Um, no, they won't and I'll have what you are having tonight;)
