1918 Helms National Championship

Inviting family members would be nice if they could even be tracked down. Might be near impossible.

I'm sure the players know where their family members are.

Fun fact:

The National Champion hoops squad in its best offensive effort of the season topped out at 37 points against NYU.

The football team on the other hand tagged Brown for 53 points that season.

As of now, does SU have anything in the works to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the first national championship?
Interesting to read the story on the final SU-Penn game, which was played at Archbold Gym and spoiled an undefeated season for the Orangemen.

Scroll to the bottom of this story.

Archbold Gym opened in 1908 and like Archbold Stadium, it was really big and a state of the art facility circa 1918.

More on Archbold Gym here.

In those days, you would considerate yourself fortunate if you could get your hands on a copy of Poor Richard's Basketball Annual.

In those days they didn't have rubber soles which made sliding on the wood court very common. Also the basketball was made out of dried salmon skin. And there were no buses so the students had to walk to Manley field house in the snow. Kids today have it so easy and their hands don't smell like fish.
