1918 Helms National Championship

That would actually be a cool project for the university to do- an audio history of SU athletics from the guys who played for the school.

Agreed. I would love it.

Also, once JB retires, they need to put a video kiosk in the Melo Center looping through all the best moments of his press conferences.

In those days they didn't have rubber soles which made sliding on the wood court very common. Also the basketball was made out of dried salmon skin. And there were no buses so the students had to walk to Manley field house in the snow. Kids today have it so easy and their hands don't smell like fish.

Teams were so much healthier back then. An exhilarating game of hoops in one's stylish pea green and pink uniforms topped off with a healthy snack, a bite of the school colored salmon basketball afterwards. Then a long hike back to one's dorm in the snow. They may still be alive.

Wow did this thread blow up QUICKLY. A lot of good stuff in here. Love the history of the free throw post. And the two posts about our leading scorer with 6 ppg and our starting center being 5'11". That kid was probably one of the tallest ball players at the time.

All I want to say is each foot of the five was worth one star! Heck, he was practically a six star player!
