1998 Tennessee vs Syracuse

I mean no disrespect to Kyle, who was awesome this year…but McNabb was on an entirely different level.

I fear what those years would have been without McNabb. That OL looked downright dreadful.
anglerman had some interesting takes about that if you read his posting history. But I agree.

McNabb was even better than I remembered. By far the best player on that field.

He was amazing in that game. (and most games, but considering the D he faced this one stands out).

Somewhere in this world, Little Joe is still cursing out that Konrad fumble.

I had just moved to Memphis for a two-year stint. Despite having a house full of unpacked boxes, I went out to watch the game. I remember looking for a flag before celebrating. The flag came late and from afar. I was shocked to find out later that the flag-throwing referee was from Tennessee.

My daughter had a new friend over that day. When her mother, who was otherwise very pleasant, asked if UT won that day, I lost it. Afterward, I politely apologized and explained that I had attended SU.

It is still maddening, but I have let it go.

I was 13 at this game. Still remember those equipment penalties. SMH
To this day, I believe the UT coaches held that tidbit of rule interpretation in their back pockets. Ready to pull out any time they needed it. The game was tight - not going their way, and they said to the refs that SU was in violation. Refs said, “Well, well, well. So they are.” UT made sure their players didn’t have any knees exposed beforehand. Such a stupid way to lose a game. And yes, those two call lost the game.

I’ll forever hate Tennessee for this game just like I’ll forever hate the Miami hurricanes for the fake punt in 2002 up 35-7 with 5 mins to go in the 4th.

that's why it's a crime that the twins played for a FG on the final offensive possession and took the ball out of Donovan's hands.

As awful as that game's calls were, and the ending that drained the life out of the building, just as bad were the SEC "cheerleaders" and visitors on the bus ride to Skytop after the game. Ten gallon hats and mouths just as wide, bragging as if they weren't crapping themselves for most if the game.
I agree with everyone else how much payback will mean next Fall.

The 2001 game at UT was a bit of a testy one if memory serves. I remember UT complaining SU played dirty and there was a bit of pushing and shoving during the game extra curricular wise.

With 2001, I think “what could have happened if they went to RJ Anderson sooner.” With 2002, I think “what could have happened if they went to Troy Nunes sooner.”

He was even better the following week at Michigan.

21/27, 233 yards, 3 TDs, 75 rushing yards, 1 TD
Was at that game and met Dan Fouts and Brent Musberger after the game at a bar near the stadium.I asked Musberger is there any doubt who the best qb in the country is and he said it’s definitely Donovan Mcnabb. Both of them talked about what a show Mcnabb put on that day.

the "barry sanders of qb's" was their unforgettable line that day.

This game loss and the Miami loss on the 3 yard line were by far the most heartbreaking losses I ever attended.
we got revenge finally for that Miami loss, now let’s get revenge on Tenn.
We ain’t getting revenge on Tennessee in Atlanta. The refs will bone us again.

Do we know which conference is supplying the refs? It's technically a neutral site game, right? Should the refs be from a conference other than either the ACC or SEC?
