2/22/2015 First Day of Spring Practice

not to be picky, but we are practicing in a place that really has limited facilities for people to watch anyway. I wonder if we were outside if they would have the same policy?

I don't think it has anything to do with it, although it might make it easier for them to defend it as their position.

Either way, it's just the way it goes now. People need to adjust. Do I think coaches are completely overparanoid about this stuff? Yes obviously. But it's not limited to us. If the lack of distractions helps them focus, so be it. Whatever they feel they need to do to win more games.

Open practices isn't going to build some new fan interest for our particular school. Too few care about spring practice, especially coming off a 3 win season. Start next season 3-0, people will pay some more attention.

Bring back Webb and Rahme.

I've worked with a high school coach that believes that our opponents consistently have scouts come and walk our community track in order to pick up our gameplan. Every person that hits the track during our practice time is obviously a scout.

Wholeheartedly believes this. Seriously. Paranoia runs rampant in this game.

Well hopefully the same NCAA official that worked John Raymon's case isn't working Arciniega. He'll hear about half way through the season then.

It wasn't the NCAA that held Raymon out.

Didn't miss the period. Did you do you're google search before or after answering the previous question? If it was after, then you obviously didn't know that other schools had it open and were responding with what we did in the past. It's good to know that 1.5% of major college football teams have open spring practice.

It's good to know even after you were proven wrong, you're still lacking basic reading comprehension. I did a quick google search and put down the 1st two I saw. That doesn't mean more don't do it.

Would it be nice to be able to watch practice?

Of course.

But with a program under the gun, a HC coach on the hot seat and a new OC and new offensive system being installed, I can understand why Shafer wants practices closed right now.

That's a good and respectful post, though I respectfully disagree that it should matter. Not sure why you didn't just post that originally instead of being dismissive.

Reading comprehension is great. I always aced it in school. How many teams have open spring practice?

mink irritates me was hoping he would move on from now, bailey I like sorta
He's had some really weird tweets, too. Look back at some of his stuff, it's really kinda strange for his professional twitter.

If the topic interests you, research it. I don't have the time. The point is there are schools that do.

Maybe you missed the period between the word yes and Syracuse did. 2 different points But with a quick google check, here's a couple

From the article -"All practices are open to the public and will be held at the Kajikawa practice fields, adjacent to the practice bubble." In spite of having open practices, ASU was pretty good last year.

We need to close practices so when we punt from our opponents' 30 down two scores with 8 minutes left, they'll be caught completely off-guard.

Surprised those decisions didn't pop up in the Shafer shouldn't be fired because they had injuries thread.

The majority don't. And why should they? To make you happy?

A reason to do it would be to help drum up interest in the program-Hopefully your son is so good that he'll singlehandedly do that:)

Normally, I'd agree with you.
Will it really drum up interest? The only people that pay attention are people already interested. What will drum up interest is winning in the fall.

Agreed.

Shafer said Omari Palmer continues to work at guard and tackle. There'll be a lot of experimenting on the OL this spring.

The first question that comes to my mind is why wasn't he last year? I can't find the article where I read it, but Shafer used the excuse last year of having to play offensive lineman out of position. Palmer at Tackle, Lasker at Guard, amongst others. Not sure if this is on Adam, but this wouldn't have happened, or at least been used as an excused under Adkins/Marrone. I think it was Marrone who implemented it, but the cross training of all OL positions was a great idea. It would have been extremely useful last season. Shafer saw how our OL turned into a strength, and part of the reason was the versatility. Shafer using the excuse of guys having to play out of position didn't come off that well to me, especially when the guys before would have been prepared for something like that to pop up.

I think the idea of a crossed-trained OLine under Marrone is a bit of a misnomer. Between the 2010 and 2012 seasons (I got on-board late in 2009), the only time I remember "cross-training" was when guys were hurt.

For example, Zack Chibane played LT in the 2012 spring game because Pugh and Hickey were hurt. Andy Phillips played 2nd-string Center because Trudo was hurt. I remember watching a practice once where Pugh was playing LG, but it was only because there weren't enough guys to cover two full lines and the 2nd-string Tackle (maybe Phillips?) needed reps.

Besides Trudo and Foy splitting reps and Trudo shifting between G and C in 2012, I really don't remember any offensive line rotations in the Marrone era. Well, aside from Lou Alexander or Mike Hay playing so poorly that Andy Phillips was subbed in.

It comes down to coaching. Lets hope that the addition of our new coach and a year under Adam belt will help.

I believe they practiced at different positions "just in case". Not necessarily just in games.
