2 locks to redshirt next year

I wouldn't say BJ is a lock. You saw the spacing issues we had without James. If Mike G or Ennis or Cooney can't be consistent three point threats, we will need someone to space the floor and that role could be filled by BJ, especially if he is at the 2. That is a lot of height up top.

Should be a good competition.

Have we ever had a situation where JB brought in a 'dedicated/specialist shooter' during games in which the primary rotation was 'cold' from outside? Mike G, Ennis, and Cooney are going to be the guards. Maybe Mike slides to spell Fair a little, for the sake of versatility. But, then you're talking about two more guards getting enough playing time to justify not redshirting one of them? One is Buss, who i can't see not getting time. If we do have these "spacing issues," i just can't see JB sticking BJ in to alleviate them. Seems like we do have some logjam issues.

Unless Rak leaves, i also don't see Chinoso getting enough minutes next year to make him happy. Maybe the redshirt helps with that, as well as helps him more fully recover from that foot injury and gets him stronger in the process? As for BJ and his father, it's great that they're active in the community, but who actually makes this decision? The player or the coach? If, after training, JB assesses a small role for BJ, what would the player do? Just say I'm not redshirting, and stay on the bench? Maybe so, if they don't feel he's going to need the full four years of eligibility anyway...

Depth will be nice to have again. But, JB, not unlike Cal, is going to have to manage some personalities.

I am hopeful there will be less concern this year with that. The character of kids we have coming in and in place seem very team first oriented. DC2 was a great teammate on the sidelines, Baye was as always CJ and Jerami - the same. Trevor took a redshirt and stayed around. So next year it seems from everything I read we bring in another round of kids with good heads on their shoulders.

I think the key part of the depth as well is that practice becomes as competitive or more than playing some opponents. I truly believe that helped us in the past several good seasons to have depth. This past year I think the lack of guard depth did play a role at times in having inconsistant play. It could be why we saw a hot streak later in the year as the players developed slower through the games vs against really tough practice competition.

While I agree with the entire post, the bolded part. Bam!
That's what he cared about from day one when he accepted a scholarship. Back to work and the goal was to win the state.
He didn't get ahead of himself, and set out to win. And did just that.

There is a place for anyone who thinks like this and this guy just so happens to have the talent to back it up.
Yes - I got my "tee" for the day! I feel complete.

Walk-ons will be the key!!

Hey! Damn right its you, you heffer.

LOL...at first I hated that show...but it has since grown on me and the last few nights have watched it every night before going to bed. My son loves it...

I only felt that Chino would RS due to his foot injury, but it doesn't seem to be a problem. I think SU will lose a couple of more players in the next month or two that'll make the roster make more sense. JB didn't bring in a 5-man class just because he was losing MCW to the draft.

At most 1 player would redshirt and that would be the incoming big man who is raw offensively. That is of course if Rak and CJ are back which right now is far from a lock to put it lightly.

Jase and sy make it worth watching. Phil also.

If BJ can shoot, he'll get an opportunity to contribute. We need shooting and scoring pretty badly going into next year. If he can back up CJ at the 3 and Gbinje at the 2 some, he could be an important player off the bench. Of course, it's going to all come down to whether or not he is ready, willing and able to handle his area of the zone. We've seen many a freshman struggle with the nuances of the defense, which in turn keeps them off the court. If he comes in able to handle his own, and even hit the glass, he'll play.

I think Chinonso "Beef Supreme" Obokoh will redshirt. I think Bj has a shot to be a shooter off the bench at the 2 right away.

Mission Accomplished! Good job, sir!

Chino said in the local Rochester paper that it is a possibility he may redshirt next year. We'll see what happens.

Yes, it is a possibility for Chino if the 3 centers come back.
But healthy redshirts are rare at SU. Cooney and Gorman -- who else in the past 15 years?
Posters are always giving out redshirts -- had CJ & Keita redshirting as frosh; were sure Grant was redshirting this season. Usually these very early guesses are uninformed (about readiness to play (CJ), or the ability of other players (assuming Fab was so good that Keita would not play; assuming Rac could play forward so there was no room for Grant).
Even in Cooney's case (behind 3 solid veterans, plus the highly regarded MCW) the decision wasn't made until just before the season started.
Patterson already had a post-grad year -- certainly won't redshirt.
BJ has a chance to provide shooting from either the 3 or the 2 spot -- certainly will not redshirt.

BJ won't redshirt simply because everyone infront of him is unproven. If BJ came in with Triche, Waiters, and Scoop on the squad, he'd probably redshirt, but who knows what we get from Cooney, Ennis, Gbinjie, and Bus next year.

Yeah...Like everyone else has said BJ won't redshirt, according to his Dad. If shooting continues to be an issue he will get a chance to go out and prove himself. But I can see him getting time at the 2 or 3.

if Fair doesn't come back, I can see BJ seeing a lot of time at the 3, assuming he can shoot a good %.

Where does Roberson fit in? I had been thinking he would be the option at the 3.

Any speculation? Who's 'better' — Roberson or BJ? Don't they overlap quite a bit, position/skill-wise? Scout has Roberson listed as a PF, but at a thin 6'7", uh, no... How accurate is the 6'7"?

To me, although BJ can rebound, play defense, he might be more of a perimeter player especially early at the Cuse.
Roberson, although he has many ways to score in his arsenal, projects more of a SF/PF right now whereas I feel BJ is a SG/SF.

In other words, if I wanted someone to:
Shoot from deep, play up top of the 2-3 - BJ
Rebound, contest shots, score in the paint, play the wings of the 2-3 - Tyler

Then again, I'm not coach. :)

And Tyler is probably 6'8 plus now. He was just as tall as the opposition's "6'9" center when I saw him live a while back.

i agree with tee for the most part. I haven't seen Roberson much besides his highlights, but i've seen BJ play extensively. Roberson seems to have more of a post game and is a stronger rebounder. I think on offense BJ can be an effective catch and shoot player, but he's not a great rebounder for his size. I think he has more length though, and could be disruptive from the top of the 2-3 though.

I guess it all depends on what lineup cuse employs. I'm also a "Big 5" philadelphia fan, and those teams right now have a much clearer starting 5 then cuse seems to have heading into next year. For instance nova has 4 locks to start. I think Ennis and Gbinje are locks to start. Fair if he returns too, but I don't know how the time will be divided with BMK, Coleman, Roberson, and Grant. And i Guess Obokoh. at the 4-5

there are just zero minutes at the 5 to be had. anywhere else though is fair game.
