I hope the reports about Shafer favoring a 2 QB system are incorrect. Would he really burn AJ's redshirt in a two headed monster QB system? I just don't thin that will work and when it doesn't, then what?

It is that old saying - if you have 2 quarterbacks you don't have any.

This is a big mistake. AJ has potential which is why they are even considering it, but he's 150 lbs and 5' 10" tall.

We live in a world where our punter has as many TD passes as our starting QB has had in five games.

Play 17 quarterbacks in a game if it changes our end production. I care less about the appearance of pithy truisms as I do doing whatever it takes to produce touchdowns/wins.

I think it's a two QB system in the hopes that playing only one would mean that QB is a sacrificial lamb, but if they roll two out there they both survive.

at this point all bets and all past rules are off. Nearly anything goes to keep this thing from seizing and going backward maybe permanently. They're going to try anybody who has even a reasonable chance for success. Batten down the hatches for some uncharted waters going forward, necessarily so.

Perhaps it's about getting AJ some reps so that he has game experience when Shafer decides to name him starter next season? And AJ long keeps getting smaller every time someone posts about him. Pretty soon he's gonna be the size of a pee-wee football player.

Brilliant.

That will simply insure that they all fail. This isn't backyard football. QBs have to know far too much to just try them out. It would be one thing to start one and then, after a reasonable period change. But to do so by design makes little sense and almost always fails.

Generally you play 2 qbs when they have certain strengths. It can essentially become a tipoff for the defense. It rarely works.

Give both snaps I'm on board with that. Id like to see aj exposed without getting him killed for four quarters.

I dont think shafer is planning on using both. Rather he prob doesnt want to tell our opponent who we are starting.

Play every snap like you're down by 6 with 2 minutes left.

Or get them both killed. There aren't enough reps to go around. This will be Allen/Hunt 2.0.
AJ is what - 177 about 35 pounds lighter than the other two. Burning his RS and putting him on the field too early probably does not serve him or us well. Hope I am wrong.

Ben did that back in the day. Wally Mahle was the run play QB and when it was 3rd and long in came Dick King. That team was so good it didn't matter much but it was still a top off back then.

Are you really worried about burning a red shirt? Really? Good lord. Wow.

This program is teetering on a cliff and we are discussing burning red shirts. Whatever it takes, it's all in. Groups get worse could get better but play anybody and everybody if it may help.

Teams that run 2 QB systems do it b/c one QB can't throw the ball worth a s&it.

Leak and Tebow at UF.
Bell at OU with whomever could throw

This is scary if we go with it. It better be Kimble/Wilson then. Burning AJ's red shirt would be a mistake, especially against Florida State.

Is it really worth trying to get to 6 wins at the expense of having a guy available as a 5th year senior? Especially when that frosh isn't yet physically ready (and I think Long is the guy, but he needs a redshirt year). We might as well play Denzel Ward too.

Whatever it takes for what? You need a good reason to burn a red shirt.Otherwise you are just thrashing about without a plan or purpose. Good Lord. Wow!

Steve Spurrier would disagree with you.

As for the SU football team this could be a blessing is disguise since the coaching staff will get to evaluate our freshman QB's in games as opposed to practice.

I'm hoping we over recruit every QB in our system.

I'm not worried about burning red shirts.

Long isn't Flutie.

We're not winning with a 6-foot, 177-pound QB.

And reduce the reps in practice so that no one had a chance to be any good. The only reason to play AJ would be if you thought you had a realistic chance of catching lightning in a bottle. Personally, I think that is their hope.

yes 6 wins is extremely important for the health of program

Why do you need a good reason kid almost won the back up position, we have 2a and 2b always been that way. That is reason enough as we are searching for a decent qb, I know you have anointed Wilson as the next Russell Wilson but he hasn't looked very good so yes we have a good reason as we have lost our starter, lost 3 in a row and have a back up who the staff isn't sold on but let's not burn the precious red shirt because there is always next year. losers mentality, once again. If the kid can possibly help win games, he plays and he plays now. Team will be better off in the long run.

Spurrier seldom did it. 1997 and 2006 and would have preferred not to have to resort to it. AND SS is not on our staff.
