2 QB System? Really?

Long brings the ability to run that Wilson just doesn't have. The offense this team knows if off the read/option - I do not know how many plays the O knows, but I would have to guess there are quite a few read/options. This is why UL and ND both stacked the box and challenged us to beat them in the air.

Will be interesting. Good to see that Shafer growing some balls to make the tough calls and get this team back on track instead of being buddy-buddy with his pals.

Both on the same play? It would be like SWC's 2 RB dream. If we run, hike to Long, if we throw, hike to Wilson.

Honestly, at this point, I don't really care who plays, and I care much less about burning a redshirt for a kid playing a position you are most certainly going to try to recruit over. Not to mention that there is more than half the season left.

I'm not expecting either to play very well. But what I do hope to see is them improving week to week. As far as getting Long killed out there, worry more about Death Valley than this weekend. That defense has hit its stride. But by November, I'd like to think we can make things interesting enough for the BC game to be meaningful.

Can't believe no one is even mentioning Mitch Kimble. He did have the inside track at the backup spot at one point, so he must have some positives.
If anything, platoon Wilson and Kimble...
Playing AJ at his current size does not do the kid justice...

If the staff chooses to burn AJs redshirt, it seems like a clear sign that the anticipated (fingers crossed!) arrival of Edouard in January holds a lot of weight for the future of this position. As in "show us what you got kid, heres your chance". A little unfair and earlier than anticipated, but if Long can demonstrate competencies and a thought process that could indicate his potential at QB, the staff will develop him at that position. If not, he may need to be prepared to display his burgeoning leadership skills with another unit.

Coaches are like politicians. They dont care about long term consequences when they have short term job security. This staff will do whatever it takes if they think it will improve our chances to win including luring Jameis Winston into the Fayetteville Wegmans seafood department.

Coaching staff didn't even put Kimble on the depth chart for this weekend. Would love to know how he fell apart in the preseason.

No Foy and no Estime on the depth chart either. Showing a fullback instead of h-back, not sure if we did that in past weeks.

Why do you need a good reason kid almost won the back up position, we have 2a and 2b always been that way. That is reason enough as we are searching for a decent qb, I know you have anointed Wilson as the next Russell Wilson but he hasn't looked very good so yes we have a good reason as we have lost our starter, lost 3 in a row and have a back up who the staff isn't sold on but let's not burn the precious red shirt because there is always next year. losers mentality, once again. If the kid can possibly help win games, he plays and he plays now. Team will be better off in the long run.

You always need a good reason to burn a rs. Otherwise just burn everyone of them what the hell. I think you know that.

Wilson played pretty well vs Nova and was responsible for the a TD drive without which we would have lost. He also played well in the OT. But that is not the issue to me.

The issue is to let one of them start until they prove they can't do the job. But, a 2 QB system just cuts down on reps and insures they all fail. If they want to try and catch lightning in a bottle with AK fine, but give him all the reps and start him until he fails. IF the staff is not convinced he has the stuff then they should not waste his RS in some desperation move.

Yes, very puzzling. Everybody was so excited about him for awhile.

Or a little help from hotel staff on FSU room service orders. Can you say 3 day old turkey salad?:)

Are you really worried about burning a red shirt? Really? Good lord. Wow.

This program is teetering on a cliff and we are discussing burning red shirts. Whatever it takes, it's all in. Groups get worse could get better but play anybody and everybody if it may help.
Agreed red shirts are irrelevant at this point.

Could it be that playing 2 QBs in a game we have no chance of winning allows the staff to have a live audition to determine which of the 2 give the team the best chance of winning going forward? I don't think they are looking to play 2 in every game. They are trying to salvage whatever they can this year and hope they can make it to a bowl.

Shafer and Lester have hinted that Long is a gamer, and Wilson earned the shot as the backup to Hunt. They have a week to split first team reps. Let's see who can do what. Long's possible RS should not be a factor in this decision. They have to try to win whatever they can NOW.

Agreed and with crusty...this is just a "can we catch lightning" moment...not a long term strategy.

1. 1/2 the people on this board wanted this. So everyone fasten the belts and hold on.
2. Shafer is not the kind of guy that is going to burn a rs or throw someone in so he can save his job. First off he is not getting fired so let's stop thinking that. At least this year. Also we can't keep playing musical coaches. At some point we need stability and if that means we are down till a coach figures it out then so be it.
3. Shafers cares about these kids more then anything and he will not endanger anyone for a win. Everyone needs to step away from the cliff.

I'm hearing Wilson outside the redzone,Kimble inside the redzone...same offense sounds like to me

That could work. Long needs to stay in the weight room and get a year older. Let Wilson and Kimble work this out.

And apparantly, Wilson knows 10% of the play book. So there's that

2-3, without your starting QB, starting a brutal stretch of games including FSU and Clemson, 4-6 on the road, huge staff changes mid-season, staring into the abyss? I'd say, taken all together, that's a good reason to burn a rs.

So Wilson gets every snap?

People here do realize that AJ Long is pound-for-found one of the strongest kids on the team, despite the fact he weighs 180? I'd be more concerned about his arm and ability to make the appropriate reads right now than anything else.

Experience is the best teacher we have so one thing this will do is give SU is a chance to evaluate this qb's and that may also include Long as well. I don't know if SU is going to burn Long's redshirt but if they do they better do it for a reason and get him a lot of snaps.

He weighs 180 with a keg on his back. No way.

I think when you are 2-3 and playing poorly, you do what you have to do. I think what you honestly have is 3 qb's who are all different and 3 qb's who can't really separate so I think the staff might be thinking that the biggest unknown is what they do in a game situation. My whole point is, the staff is going to try and get the best qb out there that might get them to 6 wins, big reach I know but I am sure that is what they are thinking at least I hope they are. Longs biggest issue will be arm strength
