I just looked at the depth chart and realized we only lose about 2-3 guys on each side of the ball that really really matter. Assuming Jerome is back for his senior year (and he really should) other than Mackey and Gulley we don't really lose much. Wales isn't used much anyhow and Parris si starting to get time along with Moore. On Defense we'll lose Bromley, Spruill and that's it. Personally I think the young DB's are better now than Anderson and Wilkes so no big loss. Very promising especially if Jerome comes back (he's still not likely a 1st day pick). I'm not sold on Hunt but no matter what he's likely to be better than this year. Add in the frosh WR's and I think SU is well positioned to return to the top 25 next year.

That said we need to get bowl eligible and get a little more bounce to our step this year.

Agree could be worse when comes to losing a lot.. Bromley and Spruill hurt but our lb core still be very good... I expect lynch have a huge year. let's hope Wayne Williams can be as productive as Bromley

If we aren't able to throw the ball vertical some, the offense will be like this year and have difficulty putting points on the board against decent teams.

Who steps up on special teams when Cokers gone? Don't forget his key coverage. If there is a special teams tackle, he's bound to at least be in the area. (Those PF halo penalties were BS in my mind).

We may "only" lose Bromley and Spruill, but those are big, especially Bromley. He has been a beast since last year. He makes everyone else on the line better. With that said I think we can take another step forward if some young guys can make a jump. I think it helps that a number of them are getting time this year. I agree with bees about the offense. We have to do a better job of stretching the field vertically.

Hickey is very possibly gone, which would be a huge loss.

I think we're still pretty far from the Top 25 - we need more all-conference level players. I do think we can comfortably feel as though we're a perennial bowl contender.

Davis, Lynch, Eskeridge, Whigham, Morgan, Williams and Kirkland.

All will fear us.

There are a lot of 6-3/ 7-2 on the outside of the top 25 right now. Our "reputation" will hurt us for a while in the polls.

I agree, im excited for next year. I think we can compete for 3rd in the conference with Louisville and Clemson, but our offense has to develop some consistency in the passing game and our D has to continue to develop.

Our Linebackers will be out of there minds.

Also losing Lyn from the D and I don't think either Hickey or Jerome will be returning next year.

At a minimum we are significantly improved QB play away from seeing a ranking next to SUs name in the polls.

I think for this to really be true we need to be respectful against FSU, and win out the other games including bowl game, that will give us some buzz heading into off season coupled with the players coming back and new class coming in a hot start next years puts a # next to our name

Bromley, Mackey, Spruill, Lyn, Jerome, Hickey... All are gigantic losses. Hardest thing to replace is leadership, nevermind the players these guys are.

I am excited about the players left behind from a talent perspective but I am concerned about the leadership from a player perspective.

I see Jerome Smith leaving. Hickey is up in the air. Just an FYI, according to the SU Athletics website stats, Bromley has 11 TFL and 8 (!) sacks.

Mackey is the one where I think we will see the largest drop-off in his replacement. You can't replace the leadership and intangibles he brings. I'll miss seeing him out there, he embodies SU. He's come a long way from when people would bash him incessantly. He's my favorite player on the team this year.

While it looks as if we will have a great opportunity to be better next year it is hard to say at this point how much better.
  1. While I think Hunt will be much better next year, there is no guarantee he will be the starter. Wilson, Kimble and perhaps the frosh will give him considerable competition.
  2. RB will be pretty thin if Jerome leaves. A couple of injuries could be more of a problem next year. Of course, we always have Broyld to press into service as a RB if needed.
  3. Some of the true frosh that red shirted this year could be interesting. If Provo's brother is as good as hoped he will be an interesting add. Corey Winfield returned 6 kickoffs for TD's in high school. We could get some neat surprises.
  4. A year of practice makes a huge difference for a lot of positions like OL and DL and we have some big boys learning in the wings.
  5. Wayne Williams might (I said might) be far better than we hope.
I would not underestimate the value of having the staff with a year under their best working together.

Top 25 is a stretch without stellar QB play but we might get it.
Go Orange!

I think the people who worried McDonald might leave for a better OC job after this year probably feel more comfortable that he'll return.

I'm hopeful that the staff will return pretty much intact. Even though many worked together previously, keeping them intact and moving forward has to benefit them as well as the team.

I have been saying it all along. 2015 is the year I have circled where we can make some serious noise. We will have an extremely veteran O line with 3 three year starters and possibly 2 two year starters. Plus our freshman core of receivers we are bringing in next season will have a year under their belts. Our defense will have a ton of experience as well with guys like Morgan Eskridge Desir Whigham Hodge Thompson Johnson Arciniega and the talented LBers were bringing in this yesr

I agree with most. Not sure if we will be a top 25 team for 2014. My concerns are depth at DT and Corner back next year. Raymon might not be ready to come back next season so Wayne Willams will be relied on heavily. We are gonna have to rely on freshman Corners, W. Morgan can play corner but he has no exp there. Scissum's skill set is more suited for safety. Jaston George hasnt been on the field and he's always banged up.
