The toss up game is the Wake Forest & Pitt games that could go either way. I say we win one of those.
Losing to wake in the dome? You must be on some good drugs

Low expectations so you can be pleasantly surprised?

That NC State/Pitt back to back is enormous.

Have to start 3-0. Don't get beat up at LSU and get at least of 1 of those 2 games to put ourselves at 4-2 before going into the nonsensical part of our schedule where we potentially play three top 10 teams in a row.

Beat Wake and BC, gets us to 6-6 with a bowl game. That's where I have us with a shot at surprising someone to get to 7-5.

Everyone is way too pessimistic imho.
If Dino did his job, then we have a respectable defense , which means we dont give up 50+ points
ever.O-line was weak last yr, and i have to expect improvement there as well.
The offense should be at least incrementaly better than last yr.
and the defense should be significantly better.

8-4 , which requires an absence of bad luck, and just a little good luck.

If we can get to 3-0 and be competitive against LSU while coming out of that game healthy, I'll buy what you're selling.

I'd give us a better chance at beating Ville than Miami. If they get solid QB play, that team is going to be filthy.

I know that MTSU has a great, experienced QB, and their DC "knows our players better than any opponent" - but, does he, really?

First off - we run entirely different systems on both sides of the ball - literally nothing at all like what those players ran prior.

Dungey was a raw option QB when he played for FHCSMFS. Ditto for The Officer. Now both are capable of putting up video game #'s when they are on.
Erv was a hybrid ExpressBack(tm) - now's he's a dominant slot WR.
Tae Strick was another hybrid/whatever guy - same for Perkins, and Moe was still in HS, along with Pierre a year behind him.
Custis was a potential project, pretty much only Ish is the same guy, only bigger and better now.
The OL is almost entirely different.
And none of us (besides Dino) knows what to expect from Pierce and Elmore - Shafer included.

IF we were playing them away, then yeah - that's maybe closer to a toss-up.
I just can't see us losing to them in the Dome.

6-7

We make a bowl with 5 wins based on our APR & then win the bowl to springboard into our breakout 2018 campaign.

6-6 and then either 7-6 or 6-7 with the bowl. All contingent on Dungey staying healthy.

6-6 -- with a clear chance to get to 7-5.

5 wins - CCSU, MTSU, CMU, Wake, BC...
Anymore this year, and Cal Berkeley swoops in to offer Dino and his staff, and we are out a HC...
They offer $$$, weather/quality of living, and an already built stadium/facilities updates...
Two Black HCs battle in the Bay Area...

I think people are underestimating that Syracuse effectively plays in the third SEC division. I wish we had this type of frisky team in like the 2010 Big East or even if the ACC rebuilt the old Big East conference with UConn as a member.

That's why our OOC has to be 3 cupcakes and one mediocre big conference team going forward. It would behoove us to just do a 10 year deal with Rutgers and make them our "mediocre/crappy big conference team".

Our division is better than the SEC East. Arguably the best division in the country. Definitely competes with the SEC West.

6-6 plus a bowl win to go 7-6.

This is the most likely scenario, I think. The next tier of possible upsets: NC Rutgers, Miami, and Louisville (in that order).

5-7.

I think we'll get the necessary 3-0 start. I worry that we're not nearly deep enough yet to find another 3 wins to get bowl eligible.

My hope is that the inevitable injuries will not pile up until later in the season. The most important 2-game stretch (assuming we start 3-0) is NC State/Pitt. If we take one of those then 6 wins becomes much more possible because I like our chances at home later in the year vs. Wake and BC.

So you both think we'll get that far and then LOSE the bowl game?

I'm not speaking to either of you until next season.

Missed that. RF2044 is on his own miserable island on that one.

Mistake on my part. I meant 6-6. No idea on a bowl, as it is unclear who we'd face.
