2018 Yankees Thread...

I always love to hear people call the sports radio stations and propose trades that come across like, "Let's trade 2 broken bats, a glove that has no lacing, and 3 balls losing their covers to the Yankees for Aaron Judge."
Yeah, radio callers are under the mistaken impression that if one packages enough things with no value together, they suddenly become worth something.

If the Yankees want a top of the rotation guy, they will need to give up something that hurts.

I'm assuming you guys went through several cases of beer at this BBQ and that you're all NYY fans. Not only are the NYM going to give you their two stud arms (both under 30) but they'll be happy to eat some salary for you as well. :rolling:

100%, many adult beverages plus many adult vapors and we were all yanks fans, except for one phillies guy.

you missed the part where the Mets also pick up Ellsbury

despite this proposal being exactly like the idiots call in with, here's the rub. the Mets are going nowhere fast and if they decide to rebound on the fly, here's how it would make some sense:

with a farm system bereft of talent close to being ready, they would get 2 immediate young MLB ready, cost controlled pieces in Red & Austin. both should be mainstays on the big club for the next 5+ years. If Wade turns out to have any kind of bat, he adds to that list in a long term utility role.
They get another for sure piece for next year and onward in Andujar. That's our beauty in making him a player to be named later and delivered after this year. Yanks will sign Machado to fill the role but still get the Andujar/Drury tandem for this WS run. Andujar, Thunder & Austin should be 33% of the Mets core players for a long time.
The Mets have a terrible bullpen. Betances is a quality piece and becomes one of their best bp guns immediately. Maybe theor future closer. We also discussed throwing in Schrieve but ultimately decided on a decent AA pitcher instead so the the big club doesn't need to replace a left in the BP (unless CC or Monty slides there after the addition of 2 starters). Add Schreive and now the Mets have 2 new top end guys (for them at least)
Germain & Adams are "close to ready" prospects and the best arms we were willing to include in this monstrosity. The AA prospect (or Schrieve) make it at lease 4 arms going to the Mets.
Since the Mets aren't close to breaking the tax threshold, they can take on DLsbury so the Yanks get salary relief, but the Yanks will pay a portion on paper and the $50M+ cash component covers the rest, plus a few million for the Wilpons to pocket, because you know they want to.
We also talked about adding another young prospect or two, esp if we had a decent catcher to send them...but we don't.
In the end, the Mets get 8-10 assets in return, stabilize their line up for years, really upgrade their bullpen, add a few good young pitchers to their talent pool and end up several million $$ cash positive. Meanwhile, the Yanks become pretty dominant having completely ripped off the Mets and made them look like fools.

Win Win

I mean, the Stanton trade did happen, so it's not like there's zero precedent for entirely one sided trades.

Yeah pretty funny. Sounds like the type of deal the Red Sox pull out of their (h)a(t)ss.

I assume any deal for a top starting pitcher will have to include Florial or Sheffield, plus a bunch of B and C level prospects.
Probably depends on how much salary the yankees are will to take on for a short term rental. I think Florial is off the table but they may be willing to deal Sheffield.

I assume they pick up Jacoby's salary, too?

and with that strike out Hicks dips below his career batting average of .231.

For those who are knowledgeable about what's going on in MLB - is anyone pitching better than Severino?

Verlander is pitching like a freak, but yeah, Severino has been great. He's so confident out there now. Nasty stuff.
