2018 Yankees Thread...

The thinking is to give the advantage to the team with the best record but now it will basically give Houston the easier road not having to go thru both Boston and New York.
Assuming Severino pitches the wild card game, the Sox might only face him once.

Ask Boston would they rather play the Yankees with Severino pitching once or playing Cleveland best of 5.
They would likely say Cleveland as Boston and New York taylor rosters specifically to beat the other. Cleveland can beat anybody they are that good but they aren’t as good as Boston/New York.
The wild card play-in game makes some sense but if it’s the team with 2nd best record overall in baseball it hurts baseball to have that matchup in the best of 5.

The NBA has changed playoff seeding rules to prevent this stuff.

I think I would rather face Severino once rather than Kluber twice.

the NFL hasnt changed how they do it, and the NBA , are they still a league?

Career numbers
Kluber ERA vs. Boston 10 starts 4.27 ERA
Vs. New York 8 starts 7.44 ERA

He is good but isn’t a guy who screams auto loss. Plus Cleveland’s lineup isn’t as deep this year.

no, but you said the NBA did as a argument for baseball changing its rules.
Baseball is a series. Basketball is a series.
Football is a one off.
Football should get rid of division winners automatically getting a home game that is a different argument though.
The NBA saw the problem and fixed it.
Baseball is slower than the NFL at making changes though so it’s not going to change.

After last year, Kluber has a lot to prove against a good hitting team in the playoffs. I wouldn't be worried about any pitcher if I was Boston.

If you’re looking for a pitcher to consistently give you 5 innings and give up 3 runs, Lance Lynn is your guy. Hope he finds his Cardinals form.
