2018 Yankees Thread...

Rays-Yankees talking Archer deal.
Rays want Sheffield. I wonder if the Yankees would do that.

Why? He’s been bad the last few years. We’re making moves for no reason.

He has definitely not been “bad.” His FIP and xFIP both suggest that he is better than his ERA.

Eh. FIP has its issues too. It’s judt one metric. If we’re going to ignore the common stats and dig through advance metrics, his WAR has gone down now for 4 straight seasons. We need to stop giving up prospects for just OK players. He’ll Voit isn’t even ML quality.

I’m not just looking at one metric. You said he was “bad.” He is not bad by any measure.

went to the Thunder game with little man and a couple of friends. Got a ball from Jay Bell and all the rest of the typical swag. fun day, and completed our A-AA-AAA-MLB run of Yanks teams this summer. May add Pulaski when we are upstate for most of next month.

As for the TT roster, was very impressed with both middle infielders (Holder and Katoh) and Amburgey in left.

Bad ERA, bad WAR, meh WHIP. Been getting worse over each of the last 3 seasons. Don’t know what he adds to the rotation.

the yanks are putting some young quality out there, but so be it. I read something recently that there are more players in MLB that spent development time with the Yanks than in any other org. This will prob continue over the next couple of years as some of these kids develop and play for their new clubs, plus the quality prospects we previously moved.

That said, if Britton turns out to be solid, we didn't impact the immediate future (next 2 years) at all.

Not trying to look ahead past this year, but with all the talented kids down low in the farm in 3-4 years we will have a ton of serious prospects in the upper levels and the young current stars all in their primes.

While I love the way this team has been built and don't miss the free spending days I really want Cash to go wild this off season, but with 4-5 year deals max. Pay the extra few million per year and bring in Harper, Machado, Corbin and one of Robertson, Miller or Britton, make a trade for another top flight starter and put this whole thing on cruise control for the next decade.

If he was actually “bad,” he would have a negative WAR like Chasen Shreve.

Based on this year’s stats, Archer would be somewhere between the third and fifth best starting pitcher on the Yankees.

Hey look, the Yankees are off tonight while the sux will play and likely win. Putting another W up while adding to the games in hand total.

yippee...

When the Yankees start a game on time where rain is coming within a half an hour and they get a 5-0 lead in the 2nd inning and get a 2.5 hour delay and the game is completely washed away let me know.

The Yankees get Monday off the Sox will have Wednesday off as this is just a 2 game series.

The bigger issue is the Sox and Yanks are likely going to have the best records in baseball and will play a flukier 5 game series in the ALDS rather than a best of 7.

Yeah, playing in that 1 game WC to then get the sux in a best of 5 is not a fun spot to be in

10, 3 & 10, 7, 10.

That’s the leads the Yankees would have in the every other division in baseball...but the AL East.

E-fluckin-nuff

I think being in the same division supersedes wildcard winner plays team with the best record. Wildcard winner (Yankees or Sox) would play the team from the other division that has the best record. Division winner (Yankees or Sox) would play the team from the other division that has the worst record.

That was changed a few years ago

Who did last year's NL Wildcard play in the NLDS?

D'backs played the Dodgers.

That is the rule before the Wild Card expanded in 2012.
Since 2012 the winner of the wild card play-in game plays the team with the best record no matter what division that is from.
The thinking is to give the advantage to the team with the best record but now it will basically give Houston the easier road not having to go thru both Boston and New York.
