2021 Yankees Season

His last 2 outings have been a complete disaster. The one before that wasn’t good either. So, no I wouldn’t have him close right now. Something is clearly wrong. Physically or mentally or both.

His first 23 games might be the best stretch of his career. On June 20 his ERA was still under 2 (one bad outing). Turns quickly when things go bad.

Keep him off the All Star team, fine with me. He could probably use the break. But to think his whole season has been bad because of his last 3 outings is something an anti-Yankee fan would probably jump on.
It isn't just over his last three outings. I watch the yanks and the Sox every day. Chapman has been bad over his last 9 outings. Going in to today, his era over the last 8 outings was over 17. His era right now, for the season, is close to 5. That isn't a all-star for a closer. That stat was from YES. I root for the American League. He is a wasted spot. And it takes away from someone who deserves to go.

Seriously though...they don’t pick the pitchers a significant amount of time in advance of announcing them, do they? I can’t imagine why they would. But that’s the only thing that would make sense.

Honestly, I have no idea. I would think you would make the selections, for the subs and the pitchers as late as you can. It doesn't count anymore so it really isn't that big a deal. Unless you are a player that has a bonus attached to it.,
By the way, not for nothing but I hate 7 inning games. Totally changes everything.

7 inning doubleheaders are ridiculous. Understood it last year, but not this year.

As for the All Star game, I wonder if Chapman will bow out. He needs time off. And the game is (thankfully) meaningless again.

Only because it's Sterling's Birthday...

especially in this case when it's a split double header. If I paid for the Sunday night game that was scheduled for 9 innings I'd want a 22.2% refund.

Playing shorter games because it’s a double header is pure amateur high school nonsense.

It’s flat out ridiculous at the pro level IMO.
So is starting extra innings in the 10th inning with a runner on second base.
Baseball ceases to be baseball once it goes to extra innings.
It’s ridiculous and shows bad Manfred is as a commissioner.

If the game goes 18 innings should you have to pay double?

Agreed. Last year was such an anomaly. But using that as an opportunity to stick with it to “attract new viewers” or whatever? Cmon.

Completely agree last year was fine for that.
No need for it now.
If the sport wants to become a 7 inning game that is fine.
But this would be like the NBA saying in games on back to back days for both teams the game becomes 4 ten minute quarters rather 4 twelve minute quarters.

The game is completely changed.

It’s just dumb. Now over 162 typically the best teams win out but it just needs to be cleaned up.

Yeah that’s even worse. Starting a runner on 2nd in extra innings is dumb. Forcing a reliever to pitch to 3 batters is dumb. But the other team can pinch hit. Won’t be long before they limit the amount of throws to first to keep a runner close.

I never thought they’d do something dumber than the All Star game winner getting home field in the WS, but they are still out there, breaking barriers of stupidity.

Agreed, but also, I'm for it.

I'd be cool if all MLB games went 7 innings.

Other than how managers would make it an unwatchable mess with their pitching staffs.

I'm going tomorrow night. (Taillon/Sheffield)
Haven't seen Aaron Judge in person before. Looking forward to that.
Tell Judge that he and the team are on notice and will be held accountable. Every game is must-win now.
