2023-24 Portal Options

I thought about posting after that game in Tallahassee if we had the choice if he would be a take? He probably would have worked for the 2-3 zone but FSU does play m2m so if Cisse is out, pickings start getting slim

Still expecting our coaches to pull a rabbit out of the hat so hopefully, this interest isn't an indication of our realistic options at this point...

Yeah I mean this is pretty much just another Hima. I watched his tape and I don't see any development over the past couple years. Certainly a big dude at 7 ft 255 but other than that... meh

Yeah, would really not be ideal to have all backup centers on the roster, but if we're into plan D options, confidence is low.

No thank you. He only played mop-up last season and was arrested for stealing for a Walmart before the season. The only angle that I see is as a backup if Hima is the starter and Carey and Patterson aren't ready, which I suppose is possible, but if that's the situation... blech.

Didn't watch his tape but I trust the takes above. Hopefully this is a back-up plan that won't be realized. If the replacement is only a marginal improvement over Hima, what's the point? If that's the case, I'd rather get Papa Kante based on potential - but to be clear I'd much rather have a developed portal center than a freshman. Jesse really screwed Red, his teammates, and the fans. Back up the brink's truck for Cisse or Dickinson.

If we don’t bring in a center considerably better than Hima that is a huge problem

Am hoping Red will be able to correct this systemic problem and that committing to M2M as primary D would open up our options here...

If not, that would be disappointing.

Still plenty of time in the window, so not going to fret.

We may end up running center by committee. As long as they can combine for 12 points and 10 rebounds I’d take it. It would also give us 15 to 20 fouls to give between all of them. If Judah comes back with the other pieces I feel we will have more than enough scoring. Just need to be able to defend the paint enough to win.

Brown-Ferguson has already transferred once, so maybe the angle is for the staff to not look for a waiver and consider him a piece for 2025 and beyond, while continuing to keep Cisse as their top target in the short term (I still consider Dickinson a pipe dream at best).

He's originally from Montreal and went to HS in Baltimore, so maybe this is just Straughn/Red doing some due diligence with a familiar face.

That would mean 5 of the alloted 13 scholarships are taken up by centers.

Well put. I was wondering this as well... not to mention I've been curious if it's possible that Careys knee issue could be something akin to Bourama or Dajuan's... plus right now there are two open spots available regardless of what Judah does.

The ship has sailed on Dickinson, IMO. No visit set to date + entering a bidding war with KU, UK and the DMV (plus some say Nova). We know how that typically end$. The only real public traction outside the Zoom call has been on this board.

The focus becomes keeping up with Cisse's bidding and late portal entrants.

I will keep reserving hope we might also be in the mix for Lubin at ND, just on the DL, as well.

Lubin certainly an interesting one given a variety of factors: ties to JJ at ND, "closed" portal recruitment, etc. Would be telling of Red's intended play style to go 'smaller' but versatile at C.

Some buzz of Lubin seeking out Florida schools given his Orlando roots, but immediate starting role is obviously quite the sales pitch.

Yep.. to me he just fits everything you want in a non traditional big man, outside maybe being a perimeter threat but that still to me isn't a big issue.
