Idk is it really that different? They’re 0-5 against the Celtics and Cavs with the average margin of defeat over 20 points. They haven’t been close. Unfortunately, their ceiling this year appears to be second round of the playoffs.

What about Jokic and his d liability? My buddy thinks Jokic is an all time offensive player but doesn’t have him at the top currently because he’s not elite on d end.

I think he is clearly #1. He doesn’t block shots but he’s very active on that end.

Giannis can't shoot FTs or threes.

Luka has issues on D.

Magic couldn't shoot a jump shot or play D.

Bill Russell wasn't exactly a model of offensive efficiency.

You get my point. Question you have to ask is this: who are you trading him for?

Like you said, everyone's in uncharted territory now. OKC's youth may not be As big a disadvantage right now.

Randle was playing out of his mind. If he keeps it up (and I'm not sure he can with the matchups this round), it brings Minny to a whole other level.

I think OKC is the better all around team, but I think Minny would be more fun.

Yeah -- they also need to look at their core, imo. I love Gordon with Jokic, but if Murray has any value, I think you need to look at him. I think Jokic can make a lot of above average guys look like all stars.

Jokic, after the game, was implying he was pissed not because of the bench they had, but that the guys on the bench never had an opportunity to get more minutes (and I think that leads into Malone being fired). Also, Booth gave Saric that insane extension.

It's crazy how they went from Tim Connelly to Calvin Booth and immediately it was a train wreck while Connelly has the TWolves in the WCF.

With all that said, I still think you have to look at Durant.

Murray should be making less than he is. Now they're saying Braun is probably in line for $25-30 million per year...they're not as bad off as Milwaukee for example but I don't think they're super far from it either. They really gotta hope someone out there likes guys like Porter way more than a reasonable team should.

Was just listening to Zach Lowe and he was making the point that they were a team kinda built before the aprons were a thing. Maybe in this environment they would've squeezed a guy like Porter a little. (They did partially guarantee the final year of his deal but then it fully triggered when they won the title).

But at the same time, Porter is signed for a max of 25% of the cap; they were a contending team and he was a young talented player, like I said maybe they squeeze him a little more in the current environment but you aren't getting Porter signed to a contract at like 12.5% of the cap.

$25-30 million for Braun sounds a little insane at first blush (and maybe it is!), but $25 million a year is 16% of the cap next year.

Edit: Though they didn't squeeze Murray at all last summer, they gave him a max. Which ehhh, I dunnoooo Jimmmm

I don't think Porter is anything special, but him being injured likely cost them the series. If he just gives you one average game in games 4 or 5 they likely win the series. The lack of depth really did them in the fourth quarters of both of those games.

And that is with the Jokic curve, right? Playing with him is making them better than they usually would be with even an average "best player" on a team.

It's tough, the apron, as Knicks411 pointed out, combined with the chip, has just made them overspend just enough to basically be that degree away both with starters and bench guys.

And, as Cusefan0307 mentioned, I don't love MPJr, but he was playing with probably a shoulder that would have had him out for a while if it was regular season. But then again, if you are relying on MPJr to be healthy AND consistently delivering, that might be a bit much.

I don't know. They def need a bench that is much more functional.

I used to think Jokic would retire in the next few years and call it a day. But the guy basically took over being a coach and no way they are firing Booth and Malone without his ok (or, maybe, he is the one that pushed for it).

And the if Giannis moves to the west, the competitive balance will be even more one-sided to make coming out of the west even harder.

Yeah, I watched Randle for a couple years on the Knicks. He's not the guy who is winning any team a championship. Good player, yes. Capable of big nights, yes. Not a guy who can win a 7 game series by himself.
