The market went a bit out of whack for the Mikal Bridges trade... this sort of follows that, with Memphis also taking on a poor contract.

20ish picks are crapshoots anyway, and I assume the Magic are making this trade thinking they are that level.

The trade only becomes an issue if you fall out of contention before the due dates on the draft picks. And it does limit "next" moves. You have to be sure it is the right piece.

When the rockets traded for a bunch of Nets picks it was thought those picks wouldn’t be that valuable . Well that nets dynasty rapidly collapsed and the picks are valuable . Then they swapped some of those picks for suns picks and now those are quite valuable. Things change fast

2. Suns made it to game 7 of a conference final .
They were indeed contenders. So not sure about that point

3. The rockets and spurs are young up and coming teams that already have major assets. The rockets finished 2nd in the western conference already. The spurs have an all world talent entering his 3rd year and a rookie of the year.

Durant wanting to go to the spurs or rockets doesn’t tell me he doesn’t care about winning. Miami is obviously a lifestyle choice and no state tax choice

He has some leverage in that nobody is going to trade for him if he tells them he’s not willing to sign long term. He’s still very productive and efficient and his game is one that ages better than an athletic / drive to the basket game

Depends on how much they have to give up. There are plenty of other potential threats that didn’t make the cut, but they’re all in states with income tax. You recognized why Miami’s on his list. Not sure why you didn’t make the connection with the two Texas teams.

Phoenix never made it past the semis with him. They lost in 6 games to Denver and were swept by Minnesota last season. I expect Phoenix asks for a lot in return. It may make sense for Houston to stay out. San Antonio I am not so sure.

It’s not that I didn’t make the connection. It’s that those two teams provide additional reasons for him to want to sign there from an on court perspective . I also doubt Durant wants any part of a cold climate given his old age.

The Clippers would take him on a rental. While they have less to offer talent-wise, the appeal for the Suns would be clearing cap room and acquiring draft picks.

They can try to ask for a lot. I don’t expect them to get a lot.

I find KOC to be even worse personally. Partly because Simmons is at least a likeable personality most of the time and KOC seems like he sucks as a person, but KOC also takes himself a lot more seriously as an NBA analyst and basically any time a team doesn't win a championship, he believes they should just blow the entire team up and start over. It's incredibly tiresome vs. Simmons IMO just having some fun with hypotheticals.

Does feel a little like that workplace harassment meme though where I just excuse Simmons for it more because I like him more.

I think the Rudy trade really blew the market up, then things calmed down for a year or so, and now we're here with Bridges and Bane.

Yeah I dunno. Dude made the finals at age 23. Was really close with the Nets. Won an MVP and was 5x first team all NBA before he went to the Warriors. Also, if he doesnt go to the Warriors, he's probaly staying with OKC and they're right there with the Warriors?

Depending on how you define eras, Melo is a lot closer to Dominque than Durant ever was

I get JJJ has flaws (foul trouble, needs to rebound more), but he's still an all star caliber player.

Ja has had issues, but you are talking about trading All NBA talent.
