2024-25 NBA Season

I see a lot of people rushing to judgment. The Mavs know something we don’t.

1. Doncic is damaged goods.
2. Doncic had no intention of signing the extension.
3. Doncic already planned on signing with the Lakers after next season.
4. All of the above.

Two days ago, AD was considered a top 10 player and an MVP candidate. Now he’s a bag of chips. OK.

Almost a year ago, Harrison was anointed a genius after all the deadline deals he made. Now he’s a moron. OK.

If Doncic wasn’t playing again this year and if he was going to be a lame duck next year, the Mavs put themselves in the best position to contend during that window. Maybe they should have received another FRP from the Lakers. Multiple picks seems like a stretch, because AD is worth a certain number of FRPs himself.

The Lakers get their replacement for LBJ a year and a half earlier. The difference is that now they can pick Doncic’s running mate, instead of it being AD. They’re also punting on this season, which is a little odd, considering LBJ’s age and where they are in the standings.

I would not assume this was a steal for the Lakers. There are a lot of ifs with Doncic and that organization.

From the presser:

No indication Doncic wouldn’t sign the supermax

They didn’t tell J Kidd

They didn’t talk to any other teams.

Lmfaooooooo.

Congrats on AD. Now you have three centers, one being the guy you just traded for that will demand to play the 4.

This is an all time fumble.

This dude just got to the WCF and Finals in back to back years and you ship him out for that haul?

Unreal.

Four guys made all nba first team in five of their first six seasons: Gervin, Bird, Duncan and Luka.

That’s the list.

This is a horrible trade for the Mavs it would seem, but the counterpoint is, Luka's fat and going to get fatter.

You think he's going to suddenly get in shape in LA?

In LA?

There is also a non zero chance the Adelsons are mirroring the plot of Major League to crash out the Mavs and move the team to Vegas.
This is plausible if the league orchestrated the move. “You trade Doncic to the Lakers and we allow you to move from the 4th-largest market in the country to your preferred destination.”

Potentially, yes, in LA. Things I’ve read.

Luka is currently injured so he’s got to heal. We’ll see what he’s like when he returns. Rumors he’s ballooned up to 260 lbs. A lot of comments his injuries over the years are usually soft tissue which points to conditioning issues. He’s eligible for super max and may or may not sign it. Could walk for nothing. All concerns of the Mavs long term.

Nico zoned in on AD as the guy he wanted which is why they didn’t shop around.

Brian Windhorst (sp?) has made a career of being the “Lebron reporter” is reporting that Lebron loves Luka and if anyone can take Luka under their wing and get him in shape, it’s Lebron.

I don’t know about others, but this whole thing has raised my interest in the NBA to see how this all plays out. Can’t wait to see Luka and Lebron the court together. Kyrie/AD is also intriguing. Two guys who played second fiddle to Lebron to win their ring can now try to win one together.

This is a far more net positive trade for the Lakers long term than Dallas. AD and Kyrie aren't winning sht together.

I'm not even sure if there can be a debate on the value long term to each party.
Its incomprehensible.

You would think, but the reality that Luka is currently hurt at least puts a pause in it for me. If there is any merit to his conditioning and weight gain, he’ll have to show he can overcome that.

If he comes back and is still Luka pre-injury, yeah, Mavs were fleeced in this trade.

Probably a lot more healthy food options in LA…*shrug*

There's another video where JJ discusses how Luka is an elite athlete - elite "brakes."

Trade deadline hasnt passed. Could be further moves are still to come? For both LA (Valanciunas?) and Mavs?

There’s like 4 un-tradable players in the league and one of them is the guy who just got traded.

I honestly can’t fathom Dallas did this. Okay he’s out of shape. He’s already a 5x All NBA player. Was just in the finals. A guaranteed MVP level player. And AD is obviously an elite player, but the age difference is absolutely the biggest factor.

And only 1 first rounder?

It’s beyond insane.

In your heart of hearts, is it more likely that Luka a) cleans it up in LA and gets in shape or b) just keeps getting fatter?

The counter point to him being fat is he just got to the finals being fat.

The counter counter counter point is if you think he’s gonna get fatter you shop him around the league in the offseason.

Theres literally nothing to be gained doing this right now.

Additionally they got NO SWAPS. If they think Luka is such a disaster wouldn’t they want the lakers draft picks?

Bottom line if the conditioning switch goes on for Luka (huge IF), I would hate to see what he does to the league. I mean he's dominating it eating hoagies and beer with a vape at halftime.

I love how all of a sudden people claim Luka is like Jabba the Hut. He def can be in better shape but the guy he’s behind for best player in the league in Jokic isn’t winning any Mr Universes anytime soon.

People were saying that he wasn’t in shape in the playoffs last year when he was dragging around a dead leg and bleeding through his tights and still averaging video game numbers before losing to a stacked Cs team.

Can’t wait to see how all those rotation guys for the Mavs look when Luka isn’t attracting all the attention so they’re not shooting wide open threes anymore.

Here’s what will happen in LA: he’ll continue to average like 28,8 and 8. He’ll make mid guys look amazing. LeBron will be able to manage his minutes better. And they’ll probably win a ton. Maybe he starts drinking wheatgrass shots and loving kombucha and eating overnight oats. I dunno. I don’t care either. This dude is a boss.

The first words of my post were "this is a horrible trade for the Mavs."

Fox to Spurs, LaVine to Kings, a bunch of nothing to the Bulls…

please explain to me how not seeing if you could do better would hurt the organization ? Even if I give you 100% that they’re better off moving on from him?

If Doncic was set on joining the Lakers as a FA, other teams wouldn’t be interested in trading for him.
