Mulvey played 7 minutes a game last season. We need deep depth here too. With this staff, I’d rather have a senior transfer with 48 games of Big Ten experience than an unknown lower division player and rely on the staff’s scouting abilities.

Mulvey is big, and has good rebounding percentages, and his PER of 17.2 would have been fourth on our team this past season. Most importantly, Mulvey has a positive DBPM, we definitely could use a defensive minded big man off the bench.
PER for a guy that played 7 mins a game last season LOL

You do know that is what PER is trying to do, right?

Counting stats can be deceptive if you don’t account for things like playing time…. Obviously.

But PER is trying to account for playing time and quality of competition. 17.2 PER isn’t great, but as a deep bench reserve?

Especially if we go after live body shotblocker who averages more than 5 fouls per 40 minutes as our starter, we’re going to need depth. A big body who doesn’t hurt you or cost you much is exactly what we need.

I could see a situation early where Transfer C is starting next to Freeman, and Freeman gets a few minutes every half playing center, especially against smaller teams.

Mulvey not supposed to be the program savior, he would just be the 3rd center in a two center rotation. Not a bad guy to have in the bench, if you ask me.

Are you the guy who whines when your baseball team signs a minor league contract? “He’ll never help us!” He isn’t supposed to, unless a ton of guys get hurt.

I know the post was not meant for me but I have to respond. I am a Red Sox fan I whine and worry about everything.

IMO - that's where he should go.
Guess Siena recruited him out of high school originally, Mulvey’s father is a Siena grad and SU took a look at Riley at some point a number of years ago also. Perhaps GMac may have known him from back then too. The fired coach, McCaffrey coached at Siena and still has some contacts there and could help steer him that way.

I think we did more than take a look. Pretty sure he was offered and some were upset he chose Iowa over Cuse.

I could definitely see him at Siena and think that would be a good level for him to get the playing time he probably wants at this point in his career.

Estrella could be a possibility. There’s rumors that Barnes might retire after this season. I believe Estrella is also coming off foot surgery. That could be a problem.
I always was under the impression from some here that he was a done deal if he portaled

Yeah Estella only played 3 games before having season ending surgery on his foot.

Can we stop posting guards that are under 6’2? We already have a 6’2 guy that can get blocked at the rim every drive (Cuffe)
No, you listen, this is what's going to happen, and you're going to take it and you're going to like it, we're going to get undersized guards, big men with injury histories, and wings that were alright at lower levels but that we can't confidently project against the ACC.

How do you fumble on the one yard line? Ever heard of the rush push

You should ask Dee Brown. Of course, the 'tush push' used to be illegal. I wonder when they changed that?

I don’t care if we build a team like Wes and Andy that outscored people, or Tyus and Frank Howard that locked people up.

I just want to win.

Aesthetically, I’d rather outscore people.
I used to think that way but I will be physically ill if I have to watch another season of mind-numbingly bad defense.

Well, that 2010 team had some boys who played great defense, too. You need low post scoring, outside shooting, good defense, and the ability to get easy baskets in transition. All of those are necessary to be good again.

Boeheim fell in love with outside shooting when Buddy was on the team, but we never went anywhere because we couldn't defend and we had little low post offense.

Now we‘ve made a 180 and have a number of players whose weakness is shooting.

Forcing steals and getting out in transition is a must. We had one of the worst turnover differentials in the Power 6 this year. A lot of our problems would be fixed if we can just flip that statistic.
