Offense was bad too. We were in the 100's. A big part was because we shot 32% from 3.

It probably can't be stated enough...contact with player agents is permissible any time of the year. Kilne has been doing it since before the season started. Most of these players, just like the players at SU, have agents. The "do not contact tag" often means that a deal has already been negotiated between the agent and the school. I'm sure some programs also have direct contact with players before portal entry. I would be surprised if SU is one of them.

Totally agree ez. Looks like Red is going for longer and more athletic/physical guys at the wing, PG, and center positions. Our defensive numbers last season were the lowest in the ACC..

There have been criticisms from the board on recruiting non-shooters. Carlos and Bell shot 32% and 35% and Lampkin had inside strengths but had major deficiencies in shot blocking and rim protection. Bell had pathetic rebounding numbers and had limited ability to put the ball on the floor. I'll be uber bummed if they don't get a wing better than Bell.

Through the season there were constant but valid complaints about not having a shot blocking center getting starter minutes. Apparently Red heard the complaining and is recruiting the former center from FSU. Limited offensively but again will be a terror on the defensive end.
I also was really impressed with the 6'6" PG they're looking at. Modest numbers in the mid 30% from 3 point range but great assist numbers, can get to the basket, and can really run the point. It would be great if we could get a point with those qualities.

Gotcha. Just seems nuts and one more thing to mark as crazy... a school can reach out to a kids "agent" while he is actively part of another team and before he announces that he's transferring. Also, if what you're saying is true "programs have direct contact before portal entry", how is that not tampering?

I don’t recall the exact stat, but over the last month or so, our offensive efficiency (per KenPom?) was in the top 25 or so. One of the announcers said this on a broadcast. So the offense improved later in the season (though still had its stagnant moments), but the defense is what killed us.
 
Kyle would be a terrific backup and energy guy off the bench. Give me GWATH!!! It’s so close to GWAR. How fun.

It's one of the weird and very common portal unknowns. Had good numbers at a mid-major and bombed at a bigger stop. Question is why and is there something Syracuse could do better than UCLA to get the best performance out of him?
