I was thinking the same, but hopefully they have prioritized their targets. Cuse is not Duke or another Blue Blood, but hopefully can compete moneywise with the SEC. Otherwise average pay equals average talent. Why settle for a 3rd or 4th round draft pick when the program needs 1st rounders to get back dancing.
They have a big board NFL draft style. There's so many good players out there though. The last thing we want is an AJ Storr or Coleman Hawkins situation.

TJ Power is available once again. I looked at his stats and he did not appear to get much playing time on a bad to average Virginia team. I recall that we didn’t pursue him out of high school even though he was interested in us.

He's done nothing in college. At this point it may be better for him to drop down a level.

Some of these kids are shopping themselves around to maximize their earnings to see if someone bites early. The smart play may be to sit back and wait for prices to normalize.
I don't think we can afford to wait for anything. A lesser program might pay a premium to get their guy, who could be our top target.

For a 5 star dude, he has really underwhelmed. He had a reputation as a deep threat and he has been terrible in limited time. He doesn't rebound either. Maybe he should go back to baseball.
I’m very surprised with the lack of success he’s had. I thought the issue at Duke was a loaded team but at Virginia, he should have had a lot of PT. I still think that another power conference team will give him a shot as long as his NIL is in line with what he’s worth.

Yeah, he could be a steal for the right team. Or a complete bust.

Considering our financial limitations I look for Syracuse to bring in a combination of these types of players.

Nick Boyd 6-3 PG
Desmond Claude 6-6 G/
Darren Harris SF
William Kyle 6-9 C
Quincy Ballard 6-11 C

Starting Lineup:
Boyd
Starling
Claude
Freeman
Ballard

Fennell
Anthony
Harris
Womack
White
Mastorovic
Kyle

If we got Boyd Claude and Ballard I wouldn’t say we have financial limitations.

We don’t have the financial limitations this year that you think we do. If we did Donnie would be at an SEC school like you predicted for months.

I’m honestly shocked that Donnie decided to stay. Must’ve been the Melo factor.

I’m so down on Red as a head coach, it really doesn’t matter. Hope he can have a great turnaround but I have my doubts

The Red thing is fair. The way I am approaching next season is either we get better or we get a new coach. Have faith brother.

I hear you but I just get Gerg/Dino vibes whenever I watch red coach. I don’t think he has a clue on offense or defense. If they’re rolling with the same staff next year I don’t think it will get better.

Yeah, I'd like to see some tweaks, at least, to the coaching staff. We are allowed more coaches, aren't we? We at least need to add an experienced bench coach.

Not adding to the staff would be criminal. It's painfully obvious what we have now isn't good enough. Adding some fresh eyes, coaches that are more O or D focused and some experience would go a long way to support Red. If he doesn't make the hire(s), then he's not giving himself the best chance to stay after next year.

Finding experience coaches to come on board will be difficult because of long term unknowns with the coaching staff.

I hear you. This season took a lot out of me as a fan. But then I'm right back here looking for the next hint of good news. We fans need a good season of Cuse basketball desperately.

I’m in the same boat. It’s awesome that Donnie loves Syracuse and wants to stay. I’m ecstatic we found a solution for him to come back.

I hope it’s the right call, because for as much as I love Cuse, I can’t help but think can any player really excel and develop here right now compared to playing for another coach and system? Seems like a huge gamble for a pro prospect like Donnie to hitch his wagon to.

Huh? Donnie is listed as a 2nd round pick on some nba mock drafts this year. Glad he’s staying to elevate his draft standing here. Written just 2 days ago.

Maybe look at what he can do instead of what you think he can’t.

He was the Horizon League Defensive POY. He is a shot blocking extraordinaire. I would LOVE to have him on our team.
He shot 36% from 3 in JUCO so it’s not that he can’t shoot at all. He just isn’t a shooter. He also shot 61% from 2 and 52% overall.

His per 40 stats were 18pts 8reb 3blk 1.5stl
dEFENSE i am all in on them numbers. We need a rim protector badddddd.

Not sure where the confusion is. I said he’s a pro prospect in my previous post?

I’ll try to word it differently. I’m psyched that Donnie is coming back, but also honestly shocked/surprised.

Why? I’m skeptical that Red is going to turn this thing around next season. By turn this thing around, I mean all of a sudden have the ability to form a cohesive offense/defensive system that puts guys like Donnie in the best position to develop and excel individually as well as become a solid NCAA tourney team.

So I think after what we saw last season, it involves a leap of faith on Donnie’s part that Red/Syracuse is the place that can develop him and max out his lottery level potential compared to transferring to another school. I hope it turns out he made the right call and next season is a 180 from this past season.

I think we will have a more talented roster next season. Even though the players will be different, if we play the way we did (despite the meltdowns in the late 2nd half on multiple occasions) in February and March this past season from the jump next season. This could work out well next season. We looked like a team in November and December that showed up to the test and studied the wrong material. I think a lot of the lessons learned has more to do with the offseason from roster building to preparation. We figured things out too late and when we were already depleted. We performed to our talent level at the end of the season.
