2024-25 Portal

JJ with 16 points on 17 shots including 9 points from behind the arc. So he scored 7 points on 9 2pt FG attempts. Jyare somehow with zero rebounds or assists. Bell with 7 pts on 6 attempts and zero rebounds. He had a beaut where he got caught watching the shot and Cross just stepped in front of him for the board and put back.
Davis was the only one that had a decent game and even he didn't have a single rebound. This team is 3 players that only do 1 thing well and 7 players that don't do anything well.

and a HC who has no clue most of the time.

If we need a solid, veteran point guard for next year (which I think everyone on this board agrees that we do), why would you want to immediately rule out a guy who posted the #2 Assist Rate in all of D-1 (!) and who shot 38% (57-151) from 3-pt range this year? Maybe we end up finding somebody better, but an immediate "No way!!!" sounds a bit foolish to me.
4-14 team in the West Coast Conference.

Hard. Pass.

Re: Moe Odum --FWIW, he's got a very favorable profile on EvanMiya's site. High marks for playmaking and passing. Haven't watched a second of a Pepperdine game though so who knows.
I won't pretend I know anything about Odum - maybe he's a guy worth considering, maybe we end up getting a good PG elsewhere. But I'm a little surprised at how quickly some people are dismissing him based on his height / weight and his team's record. At this time last year, everybody seemed to be super high on Malik Mack, who was 6'-1" / 170 lbs and who played for a Harvard team that went 5-9 in the Ivy League. (To be fair, Mack didn't exactly set the world on fire for the Hoyas this year.)

But you look at a guy like Chaz Lanier at Tennessee - he played on some truly awful North Florida teams in the ASUN Conference, but is doing well now that he stepped up to the SEC. Or how about a guy like Deivion Smith at St John's - he's listed at just 6'-0" / 175 lbs - is a guy like him too small for SU to even consider? You're telling me he couldn't have helped us?

I get that this is just a message board, and a lot of people love to weigh in with hot take opinions on guys that they've never actually seen play. I just think that immediately dismissing a guy whose stats hint that... maybe he can play a little bit? ... is probably a bad idea. Hopefully Alex Kline is a looking a little bit deeper than a guy's height and weight to determine if he might be able to help us win basketball games next year.

I suspect people are jaded because of how any critiques of the guys we brought in via the portal last year were savaged. And those guys, aside from Lampkin, were low major players who clearly were insufficient to populate a tournament qualifying team.

I’m throw my lot in with that. If Kline brings in several low major guys then they better well all pan out to a wild degree. But I’m skeptical of that.

I think Alex Klein will go with players who have been previous high level recruits; players like Elliot Cadeau, Jalil Bethea, Aaron Bradshaw, Mackenzie Mgbako, Kwame Evans come to mind

JJ, Eddie, Cuffe and Taylor are ACC-caliber players. All but Eddie have been miscast in their roles because our roster is subpar.

Cuffe and Taylor are mid major players

Do we have the money for those types of transfers

Of our guys people presume will portal, what are the likely destinations?

Moore go to Siena?

Cadeau stinks. Red will be fired guaranteed if he’s the PG. The stats do not lie.

Right now some people will say yes. Then when we whiff on a bunch of guys they'll say we never did. NIL is the Get Out of Jail Free card that provides cover forever.

This kid is an absolute baller. Go watch some of his highlights. Think he scored 52 the other day. He’s going to have his choice of bag he wants
Ignore the 52 points. 6'6 and handling the ball and some confidence is what we need. Ideally more experience in P5.
