This kid was great vs Alabama in the tournament.
Some in olden times used to be just called “bag men”People need to look deeper than a school merely having someone with a "GM" title. I'd be very surprised if every P5 school didn't have someone(s) full time dedicated to scouting potential transfer acquisitions. They just may not be called "GM".
Sure. And most P5 programs have more staff than we do. Often time MUCH more staff who aren't assistant coaches.Of course there’s been someone prior to GMs doing that. Current staff members. Even SU. Somebody came up with Lampkin, Taylor etc.
Phil, I agree with a lot of your critiques, but you (and Dean Francis of Otto’s World) are wrong on this. Cuse wasn’t a forerunner in hiring a GM, but they were only a year behind programs like Nova, who were forerunners in doing that. Most schools did not have a GM when we hired Klein. Many did have larger support staffs, so they could assign some of those duties, but they weren’t GMs. Also, I expect Red will hire at least one, if not two, additional assistant coaches this offseason. That is the ACC they aren't the best example they are behind in everything as shown on the court.
If JJ is on this team as anything but a 4th or 5th option we will have another bad year, and maybe barely make the tournament.Phil, I agree with a lot of your critiques, but you (and Dean Francis of Otto’s World) are wrong on this. Would love to land him but he'll have his pick of schools.
Auburn, for example, doesn't have a GM.Dean Francis is wrong about what? that we were one of the first teams in the ACC to hire an "official GM" sure that is probably correct. That doesn't mean that other programs didn't have people do those same duties under different titles. Kline isn't doing anything unique. He is taking data and analyzing players that could potentially enter the portal. That job/role could have been tasked to others within the department just given a different title. You are hung up on the title the title means very little the duties that he is performing aren't unique and groundbreaking and all of a sudden Syracuse is cutting edge.
I checked over the weekend Auburn has a staff of 22 on their Hoops staff page, we have 12 on ours.People need to look deeper than a school merely having someone with a "GM" title. I would bet my house that the guy who initiated that was Oates and not some rando in Alabama who said, hey, you need more assistants. I'm certain Oates asked for more staff to break down video and crunch numbers and the Alabama AD was like, "OK, sure. We're paying $500k for an S&C coach in football, hire all the nerds you want."I checked over the weekend Auburn has a staff of 22 on their Hoops staff page, we have 12 on ours.
Yes. A lot of guys know where they’re going when they enter. Not all but quite a few.As I understand it, coaches can't have contact with players until they are officially in the portal. If the portal only opened today how have players already slimmed their lists of schools down to a top 3?
Is it as simple as the rule exists, but can't be enforced?
Not contacting the player but the agent. No real difference but may comply with the rules. As I understand it, coaches can't have contact with players until they are officially in the portal. If the portal only opened today how have players already slimmed their lists of schools down to a top 3?

Maybe he will pick usWould love to land him but he'll have his pick of schools.
same thing that happened before with HS coaches, AAU coaches, parents, friends, etc.Not contacting the player but the agent. No real difference but may comply with the rules.
The SEC has been gaming the system for years when there were rules. you think they don’t know how now when there’s no rules.same thing that happened before with HS coaches, AAU coaches, parents, friends, etc.
this outcome was so obviuos...decimate the mid majors and low majors every year...for the benfit of the elites...I hate this timeline. The rich just keeping get richer—everywhere in society. Corruption, greed and graft are all par for the course now.
