Holy crap, looks like a reliable account too.
$3.5 mill for Wright. Wowzer!! Can't imagine what BYU had to pony up ($$$$) to land A.J. Dybantsa. Lucky for them there is no salary cap.

7 million is the rumor.$3.5 mill for Wright. Wowzer!! Can't imagine what BYU had to pony up ($$$$) to land A.J. Dybantsa. Lucky for them there is no salary cap.
I don't disagree.I think it's incompatible with the mission of any respectable institution of higher education, religious or secular.
One can find whatever scene they like, if they look for it.BYU has had many non-LDS student-athletes over the years. Partying does happen at BYU as well...just less and quieter. That's according to my sister, who attended during the Ty Detmer days.
100% I agree. The addition of multi-million $$$ NIL packages adds an interesting wrinkle.BYU has had many non-LDS student-athletes over the years. Partying does happen at BYU as well...just less and quieter. That's according to my sister, who attended during the Ty Detmer days.
Your tithing dollars hard at workAs a member of the faith and a BYU alum, I find this incompatible with BYU's mission.
What's incompatible? The large amount of money? Genuinely curious. As a member of the faith and a BYU alum, I find this incompatible with BYU's mission.
Do you think some of it is LDS wanting to demonstrate in a broader sense just how expansive its coffers are, and this (outbidding everyone for mens hoops players) is seen as an ideal way to do that?I don't disagree.
Big Mormon money. This is gross, honestly. I really hope it fails spectacularly for them.$3.5 mill for Wright. Wowzer!! Can't imagine what BYU had to pony up ($$$$) to land A.J. Dybantsa. Lucky for them there is no salary cap.
while not exactly a party school , i'd be surprised if BYU passes on Don Nermeat . i hear they're hungry for a big guy.Big Mormon money. This is gross, honestly. I really hope it fails spectacularly for them.
The whole system needs to be canned and then reworked to something that has some sanity to it.Big Mormon money. This is gross, honestly. I really hope it fails spectacularly for them.
I think it’s just one guy (the Jazz owner) wanting his school to win and make basketball bigger in Utah.Do you think some of it is LDS wanting to demonstrate in a broader sense just how expansive its coffers are, and this (outbidding everyone for mens hoops players) is seen as an ideal way to do that?
I have complicated feelings on it. I'll send you a DM later. What's incompatible? The large amount of money? Genuinely curious.
No, I don't think it's that at all. Plus it wouldn't be from church coffers anyway.Do you think some of it is LDS wanting to demonstrate in a broader sense just how expansive its coffers are, and this (outbidding everyone for mens hoops players) is seen as an ideal way to do that?
Someone mentioned him in a hypothetical Syracuse roster going into next season. For him to come in the starting lineup would have to be George-JJ-Kingz-Watkins-Freeman but that doesn’t seem to be where they are going. Plus I don’t believe Kingz or Watkins would come here to come off the bench.Any chance here?
I'd have to think he's definitely involved and driving a bunch of this, but there are almost certainly other Utah tech bros/businessmen involved.I think it’s just one guy (the Jazz owner) wanting his school to win and make basketball bigger in Utah.
I’m sure LDS is part of his mission in life to a degree but it’s doesn’t seem bigger than one guy wants his school to win. Same as Repole at St John’s
I wouldn't think so. I'm pretty sure they're subject to the same tax requirements as any other higher education institutions that students are eligible for Pell Grants and federal student loans attend.BYU gets the same tax exemptions as the mormon church right?
I’d love Watkins but I’m with you - George/Kingz didn’t come here to come off the bench, and there’s no way JJ comes off the bench (even tho that might be his best role)Someone mentioned him in a hypothetical Syracuse roster going into next season.
