With Soto being an average at best defender and declining fast in that area, that small LF in Fenway would be perfect for him.

Yeah, this might have been his best defensive year, which is not saying a lot. I would love to see him try 1B. Of course he is not going to sign with the team who asks him to learn 1B.Soto is 26. Why is he "declining fast" on defense?
true this Soto dance seems to have this energy from Red Sox ownershipThe Red Sox owners/mgmt. are morons.
They could have locked up Mookie Betts but instead they traded him away for circus peanuts and now they’re pretending that they’re all-in for Soto.
Sorry, resume Yankee talk.
He has a strong arm but his range has always been below-average. For those reasons he was a great fit for NY's short porch and the Yankees can hide him there for a few more years if they end up signing him. The Red Sox could do the same in LF. Him in Fenway's RF would be an adventure, though.Soto is 26. Why is he "declining fast" on defense?

yeah, the problem is then Judge has to play CF or LF, which is fine, but not ideal. He has a strong arm but his range has always been below-average. I don’t think you can just pigeon hole him into 1st base, he just doesn’t seem the type to be able to handle a position that is a lot more important than most think it is.With the shift being banned it makes it even more valuable to have at least an average 1st baseman stationed over there.I could be wrong, but he just doesn’t look to me to have the type of agility and skill to be competent enough to play there.Yeah, this might have been his best defensive year, which is not saying a lot. I read recently that 1B is still by far the least significant defensive position (i.e., it has the least impact on BABIP and ultimately win probability). I will try to find that article. I recognize that Soto might not be great at 1B, but I would love to see him try, because he can do much less damage there than in the outfield.I don’t think you can just pigeon hole him into 1st base, he just doesn’t seem the type to be able to handle a position that is a lot more important than most think it is.With the shift being banned it makes it even more valuable to have at least an average 1st baseman stationed over there.I could be wrong, but he just doesn’t look to me to have the type of agility and skill to be competent enough to play there.
He did?
