2024 NFL Thread

I’m willing to listen to most all critiques as to why Lamar should be MVP over Allen. Except this one:

Lamar “beat” Allen head to head in an early season nothing game in which the bills were on the road and half their team was injured . So now MVP is based on how you did in one game vs another candidate ? Gtfoohwts
That won't be why Lamar wins it. He will win it because he has better counting stats. Not counting yesterday Allen had 6 games below 200 yards passing. Lamar beat him by 400 yards on the ground and in the air. I don't really think it's that close tbh. One of Allen's best games is when Buffalo lost(LA).

I’m not arguing those facts. But I’ve heard the head to head argument proffered on multiple media outlets. The problem with the QB position and using strict numbers is so much of your stats depend on team style of play and game situation. A major reason burrow has the numbers he does is because his team was down so often they had to throw. I do think overall team performance matters quite a bit for the mvp award and number are just one part of the equation. This isn’t best offensive player award. The fact the bills had a better record and had wins over both number 1 conference seeds in my opinion greatly bridges any numbers gap between he and Lamar .

The Chiefs and lions combined for 3 losses. Two of them to the bills. The ravens lost to the Raiders and Cleveland.

I think Allen will win MVP and he'd get my vote personally but I will not complain at all if Lamar wins. They both had remarkable seasons. Drastic difference from last year when nobody had a remarkable season.

The closeness of the MVP race reminds of another race in November, as in astroturfed media driven. Allen won't get 49/50 votes but I think people will be surprised.

Voters are wising up to smart data like EPA, Points/drive, Sacks/Pressure, Pace of play, etc. Those counting stats (football's Batting Avg & RBIs) aren't going to do it.

And despite all the sanctimony about 2024 needing to be seen in a vacuum...yes it should when there is a runaway candidate like '19 (or '21 when nobody really wanted to vote for Rodgers). But there just isn't this year. We all know the count shouldn't be 3-0 when JA has been the 2nd best player in the sport since 2020.

The difference in QB play in the AFC as compared to the NFC is crazy. Kermit, Allen, Jackson, Burrow, Herbert, Stroud --- all would be close to if not the best QB in the NFC.
I'd take Goff over Herbert and def over Stroud. But I get your point.

What would Allens stats be if he had a Henry in the backfield.

Teams don't play the same schedule, so stats tell less in many cases.

Allen had the better MVP season, Jackson had the better stats.

James Cook isn’t a slouch himself.

Cook had a nice year. Teams are not scheming to stop Cook though.

I stand corrected. Looks like Lamar won MVP.

I think Henry was probably the best RB in the league this season (including Barkley) but defenses are definitely more worried about Lamar than Henry.

Henry also averaged well over a ypc with Baltimore than he did last year which is 100% the Lamar effect.

I think it's a combo. Don't discount how much better the Ravens O-line is compared to the Titans. The Titans had possibly the worst offensive line in the league in 2023.

Being a fan of a team not in the playoffs the first three are skippable if you've got other stuff to do but starting with Packers/Eagles I'm locked in.

Herbert better do something. God he sucks when it matters (so far in his career). Lol

Also, Chargers defense scored 9 points on the Texans only TD drive. :)

The NFL alt-22 nerd community loves to make excuses for Herbert. They are like Gordon Ramsay on the kids chef show

Also nice play call on 4th and 2 Harbaugh you freakin' meathead.

4th and 2 and you run a play to a dude that can't run routes and drops 76% of passes thrown to him? He runs a 1 yard route on a 4th and 2.

We deserve to lose.
Idiotic.

The poor Chargers defense. :(

Doing so much...but clutch Herbert is on full display today.

I’m curious what kind of crowd there will be for Vikings Rams. Like will it sellout? Can a stadium fill up for two non-local teams on only a couple days notice?
