2024 Seating Changes

i saw that dollar hot dog day at citi field then went from 4000 a game to close to 70000. sounds like a way to make money by selling more
Not sure this is a great idea.

They ordered 70,000. Sold 44,269.

So there is the matter of what to do with the extra 25,731 hot dogs while the team goes on a long road trip.

And there is the matter of all the fans that were throwing hot dogs at the one guy who was tracking his hot dog and beer consumption on his shirt, ala WWI airplane aces. Police escorted him out of the stadium on hopes of preventing a riot. Cleanup costs were probably quite a bit higher than normal.

It also assumes that you can make a profit selling hot dogs in a stadium at a dollar a dog. They normally cost $7 (and based on what I saw, they were the Nathan's finest hot dogs the Mets normally sell).

They likely lost money on every hot dog sold. If they broke even, that would really be impressive given the cost of food and labor costs in NYC.

I think the idea here was to get more people to buy tickets and attend the game and make money that way. Attendance was 22.880 for the game. They are averaging 24,352 per game this season so it appears if that was the plan, this was not successful.

All that said, if SU did a dollar hotdog day, I would be in for a couple. Even if I just came from a tailgate and already had a full belly. And for mine, you can hold the bun SU!

;)

Mine is still not right, I see that the last update was 4-26 and that they will update again before 5-1. Can't wait.

I really hate this picture.. Ironically I started out on a corner section like this on the home side. It looks like seats clamped on to a new metal benches in sections... IMO they didn't change anything, just make it so people can't seat hog others. My ticket prices went up proportional to the seat backs I already had.. They are just 'promoting it'. As I mentioned I will have to see in person when I get a chance, but notice the tie downs from the beginning/ending and every 4 seats and the nice metal sitting platform across. I think it is nothing more than to get seatback pricing in every ticket now for more revenue versus empty seats and those without.
I like have my own space, seat. Especially nice to have the larger seats in the lower levels where the revenue comes from.

Final update sometime between May 6-13

I just realized my football donor rank dropped 900 spots with the latest update.

Probably won’t get the seats I had last season, but there isn’t a bad seat in the house, somehow I’ll make do.

And I’ll bring my portable beer holder to every game - my hand.

That poor hand deserves hazard pay.

Are the rankings we are getting just for football? How can you see the difference between football and basketball?

They still make money on the hot dogs -- 70 cents is breakeven point. (I was weirdly at this game in a suite with folks who know the $ figures and how it worked). It drove ticket sales but only marginally. The weather was chilly, too.

The only thing that truly drives ticket sales at Citi Field (and most stadiums) is sustained winning. It was just a gimmick and folks had fun with it. If they promoted it better, I bet they would have sold some more tickets. It wasn't advertised well. Fans loved it in person.

It’s the same for football and basketball

Donor rank includes all donors to Athletics

This is going to be the biggest single change to the appearance of the dome ever.

All that grey concrete and silver benching getting replaced almost completely with dark blue is going to fundamentally change the character of the building.

The dome is going to look fancy. We are moving on up to the East Side!

Makes sense why you don't paint the concrete that you really won't ever see

Was coming to say the exact same. The grey is gone. Huge change...

There are, give or take 83 seating sections in the dome. The ones in the corners are smaller and one might opt to not count some of the smaller ones, but I count 30 on the lower level, 17 on the 200 level and 36 on the upper level.

If the goal is to finish by Thursday, August 22nd (new student convocation), they have less than 16 weeks to get this done.

They need to complete about 5.5 section per week to get to their deadline. More than one a day.

Hopefully we get some good pictures of the progress as this project continues over the summer. I am sure Pete Sala will love the public monitoring things from afar.

I predict they will finish will before the deadline.

that went pretty fast to get those 2 in. i wonder how big a crew they put to work for those first ones, i would think 2 a day is doable,

Also heard that they are in fact cutting wider openings for access to the new Miron Victory Court. Very exciting to have that huge space accessible for games. Will be very unique nationally, and hopefully an awesome spot to meet up before and after the game.
