Would Beamer leave South Carolina to go back to Virginia Tech??
Little brother in their city, out of place in their conference, home atmosphere is pretty awful, but they have nice wome... errr weather.UCLA just seems cursed recently. Should be a good job but it's not.
Tony White would be a great hire. Clearly a defensive guy with an identity who can do more with less.Yep he is a UCLA grad. As was Foster, but for Tony’s sake they hopefully don’t hold that against his candidacy!
I believe he is a UCLA grad. Would be a bold move.Tony white supposedly on UCLA’s list
As Rick Neuheisel mentioned on the radio this morning, in today's college football landscape, turning things around is less to do with the coach and more to do with how much a school is going to invest. UCLA is tens of millions in debt. The state of California is not going to invest 100's of millions of dollars (like VTech announced a couple days ago) into the program. UCLA will be mid-to-lower tier for years to come.I believe he is a UCLA grad. Would be a bold move.
I doubt their AD has the stones but it might be their best shot to get things turned around.
I've got neckties older than you!"I'm a (old) man. I'm almost 60!"
100 % agreeI really do not get firing a guy this early. For Va Tech, why not let the guy coach the FCS game. And then lose another game or two before letting him go. That much of a difference?

What is worse--firing a guy who goes 5-7 (winning FCS and splitting the remainder of games) or firing a guy and then the team goes 2-10 with no head coach?I think they dont want the chance the team starts to win and then they cant fire him.
Since this a mid-season poach, does Syracuse get anything from UCLA as compensation?Word is Kevin Coyle a Senior Defensive Analyst has been poached by UCLA to be their Defensive Coordinator for the remainder of the season.
When UCLA fired DeShaun Foster two weeks ago they named Tim Skipper to be the interim Head Coach. Skipper and Coyle worked together at Fresno State from 2022 thru 2024.
With Syracuse coach Coyle, who has extensive experience as a defensive coordinator, was working with the secondary. I understand Coyle was very involved in putting together the defensive game plan for the Clemson game last week. I'm guessing he prefers hunting over fishing.
It will be interesting to see if Coyle's absence is noticeable or not.

UCLA finalizing deal to add Kevin Coyle to defensive staff for rest of season
UCLA is slated to fill its vacant defensive coordinator position with coaching veteran Kevin Coyle. He has worked as a college and pro-level coach.sports.yahoo.com
Resume builder? Coyle is in his late 60’s. He’s doing his friend a favor.I am sure fran bought his plane ticket for that job. there is zero chance fran would advise him to stay here for an analyst role lol
get the bag and get the resume builder
Blacksburg sucks. It’s a backwater. I don’t think it’s an appealing job.Dan Mullen is on the list of 10 made by SI. Need a new thread? Also on their list - Tony White. At the top - Coach Prime.
