2025-26 NBA

How is this any different than Anthony Davis getting a role in Space Jam 2?
Well Anthony Davis looks like an alien so already he’s more deserving of any cash outlay

I did some reading on this company, it's a pretty shady deal all around that had a lot of "fake" endorsement deals where celebrities would "pay" the company X dollars to plant trees (that the company would book as revenue) and then the company would pay the celebrity X+Y% (that they wouldnt recognize as an expense). I honestly am kind of far from convinced this was actually cap circumvention at all. I may end up looking stupid for that take though. It's happened before!

Like the original tweet makes it sound like Ballmer founded the company or something which isnt the case at all

Lot of these companies in the carbon offset field. Not really recognized by many bodies as legitimate offsets.

I suggest you watch the entire pod, if you haven't. You may still conclude that the fire is not there, but at minimum, the smoke is suffocating.

I don’t know if people are really going to care that much even if it’s 100% true. They will just assume everyone does it and move along. I do find it odd that it would require all this extra business to get the weirdo KL to sign a contract with his hometown team. Sometimes you almost get the feeling he doesn’t like basketball that much

Salary caps are stupid. I’m all for every team circumventing them. May the most creative win
I think they are necessary for a league to survive. The business is the league, the teams are their subsidiaries, all of which must be competitive in order to attract fans and sell merchandise, which benefits the league, as a whole. A league can’t survive if economic competition drives out half of the teams.

Salary caps are in place for no other reason than than to limit salary. they are not in place for the fans interests. I agree that it does benefit the leagues in so far as the league is the owners and the owners artificially limiting player salaries benefits the owners.

While there’s a lot of smoke, it doesn’t mean the Clippers are directly connected. The timeline doesn’t match up with Ballmer’s investment and Leonard’s deal, correct? This company was one of the first to invest in the Intuit Dome and they were supposed to have a sponsorship patch on the Clippers jerseys last season.

If the company is owned by Clippers fans, it’s possible they were doing Leonard a solid without the team’s knowledge. The whole thing was a sham anyway, right?

Mark Cuban raised some great points. Ballmer isn’t dumb. If he was behind it, there wouldn’t be a paper trail.

I’ll assume the NBA will be looking into it in some fashion. I guess we’ll see how it turns out.

Much like they went very in depth with the ref game fixing issues rather than slam the door and conclude only 1 bad ref was involved

Like most things, I assume it’ll depend on how interested the owners are in actually pursuing an investigation. Probably not super interested, given that they tend to protect their own.

Because they know next time it could be them

It would have to be for the second deal he signed, in the summer of 21; Ballmer invested in the company in like December of that year.

But it's weird, because Kawhi opted out in the summer of 2021 to sign a 4 year max deal with the Clippers. So, no one else could have paid him any more than they did already. And also, he was rehabbing an ACL injury and didn't play a single game in the 21-22 season. So they were so desperate to circumvent the cap for a guy that 1) they could already pay more than anyone else and 2) was out with a torn ACL? I don't want to be 100% dismissive of this just because its at least a little shady and you never know, but...

Teaser on more investigatory work to follow ?

"How he arrived at the Knicks is interesting". Just hilarious to me because the idea that the general consensus that the Knicks got this incredible deal when they signed Brunson in 2022 is just not even close to the reality. The extension he signed last summer is certainly a different story.

Pablo was on with Isola and Scalabrine and in my opinion came off like he was Woodward or Bernstein. I think he thought this was going to rock the NBA world, and I'm not sure all the dots are connectable. Also, I agree with Cuban who basically said Balmer is too smart to be this sloppy.
