that also means he has never been on the ice on time for an icing call
He said started a shift. Icing just means If he were mid shift he’d have to stay on for the draw. Technically nobody can start a defensive zone shift post icing because you have to have already been on the ice

At least for the night Sabres 2 pts clear of Tampa in the east at and no worse than tied with Carolina at 100 pts.

Great job by them.

Tampa going full goon when they're losing as per usual.

Hope it doesn't happen, but took a flyer on Montreal +2200 to win the Atlantic a couple weeks ago; just seemed like an insane price.

I'm a Habs fan, and Tampa did play chippy at the end.

That being said Jake Evans hit from behind on Kucherov with about 4:00 minutes to go was dirty (and lucky that they only ruled it a two), i can see why Tampa may have been a little more riled up after that,

The hit ended up bad. But if Kucherov finishes the play and takes hit there is no penalty at all. He turned his back which in reality could have been a no call, and watching the replay the ref didnt call anything until after the ruckus happened.

One might think Evans would know better after the lick Scheiffele put on him a few years back.

In terms of Kucherov turning his back, he certainly did. But I'm pretty sure the rulebook doesn't make it open season when that happens... the opposing player (Evans in this case) still has a responsibility to lay off the best he can. And I don't think Evans made much of an effort to lay off, it seemed pretty forceful -- but replays can be deceiving in that regard.

One of the downsides due to the change in the role of the red line. Both the speed of the players and the pace of play increased significantly, making it even more difficult to avoid high speed collisions, especially those preceded by a sudden change in a player's direction. It's hard for people who have not played hockey to appreciate that (and I don't mean you :)).

  • Intentional Turning: When a player puts themselves in a vulnerable position by turning just before a hit, the onus is often on them, not the checker, to avoid injury.
still its up to the ref. Now they wanted to make double minor/major call but reduced it to 2 min penalty.. I dont think they can change it to no penalty but they can lower it down on review. Much like they can call a 2 min and upgrade it on review.

Sabres win Atlantic. Worst to first in 4 1/2 months.

They beat Dallas they finish with 3rd best record in the league.

What a performance by the Leafs last night as they strive to finish in the bottom 5 in order to MAYBE retain their top 5 protected pick. They lead 3-0 and then 5-3 in the third but managed to pull off a regulation Loss. Seattle needs 1 pt out of their next two or a Toronto loss or tie to ensure a leafs bottom 5 finish . Should the leafs finish 5th from last, they still only retain a 42% chance of staying 5th or lower

I turned the game off after they blew a 3-0 start. What a season

It's not that big a deal when you consider their draft record. 🙄

Every time I get back into hockey, it's apparent to me the refs are just out there clicking buttons. That Goalie interference call on Columbus in MTL the other night was the worst call I've ever seen (how was that not challenged?) And could the SN announcers be more biased (I know it's a Canadian station but Geez). Feels good to work up some hate on all these teams 😃😠

The Leafs decision making apparatus on player evaluation is almost as incompetent as the NY Jets.

My Caps just missed. Soooo many points given away. They’d be sitting pretty in the West. I think OVie is gonna come back though I’m not looking forward to it. Need younger and faster. More of Leonard and Hutson and little Protas.

Caps basically blew up the Hershey Bears and brought in a ton of new guys this season - they were a great AHL team loaded with 4A players who would never contribute much at the NHL level. I thought that was a sign they were going all in on Ovi's last season to shoot for a Cup. I'm not sure what the offseason strategy is going to be now.

Also curious with Fitz getting let go from the Devils, if that frees the next guy up to start a rebuild or significant retool - relying so heavily on a guy who can't stay healthy (Jack Hughes) hasn't worked and I think team chemistry was awful after the whiff on getting Quinn Hughes. I'd be fine with trading Jack since he can bring value back, and I can't see him being the star on a Cup wining team.
