Class of 2026 2025-26 Portal

Which is why to me Moreno and Sadiq were massive gets. I realize there is unknown with Moreno but the more video I watch the more I’m convinced he’s likely to be up to the task.
3M is a good example. BUT...we don't know how much we paid. He could be one of the high end expenditures.

Yep and end of the day I figured with adds and keeps there would be 4 bigger spends which would be PG/Sadiq or Donnie/ SG( had figured Kingz before 3M) and C. The rest being moderate to bargain.

Not panicking at all. Syracuse will get a solid PG. They have to. But it might not be as big a name as many fans want because, at the moment, there are about 50+ programs with more momentum than Syracuse in the last few years.
The reality is the big dogs shop at the Lexus or BMW dealership when looking for a car. SU can afford a Ford or Chevy. Not a shot
at anybody, but we're not elite when it comes to NIL $$. That doesn't mean we can't be competitive. SU just has to go the extra mile to maximize it's $$.

Broken record here - and, admittedly I could be way off on this - but I doubt we have more than 1 or at the very most 2 high end guys from the portal. By high end I mean those players that will trigger multimillion dollar bidding wars. The math isn't going to work.

G is the most critical. We can find what we need a level below the bidding wars at the 5 if we must (again not saying you are right or wrong). So far the roster build appears to be done with intent and thought out. I don’t mind that there is not tons more floating around who we are sitting best with.

Also sitting around in webinars I don’t need all day I’ve perused a bunch of forums and outside a couple ( UK, Ville cough) everyone is talking the same language on having funds left based on who is staying or expected etc, UConn included.

Definitely a slow roll on big announcements so far which tells me maybe not that many have the absurd money to spend or are as willing to with the numbers agents are pushing around.

Momentum is overrated when you have NIL funds to compete.
No because your gonna have to overspend to win a battle against Michigan Uconn, st johns and others. If it was 2012 we wouldn't need to outbid necessarily because players would want to come to winning. See the difference?

You don’t have to battle them on an every portal addition. If those top 10 have money and a starting spot right now they probably win out. Drop a tier below and we can compete. Not saying it’s easy and you need relationships to help but we aren’t stuck only beating bubble teams for players.

I would add that Gmac also seems to want to priortize guys that will buy into the culture he’s building—toughness, an incredible work ethic and desire to improve their games, high motor players, a team-first mentality, guys that want to pass (see Michigan), and other non-negotiable values. That’s how Ben McCollum, Dusty May, Tommy Lloyd, Hurley and a bunch of other coaches have succeeded—along with innovative offensive systems and commitment to defense and rebounding. Red may have been forced to compromise on some of those qualities in players because we didn’t have NIL his first two years, and he prioritized continuity his first season. He also just might have failed at communicating with the players and getting them to buy in. That’s a hard thing to do. Who knows. But I think Gmac wants to develop players and expects them to have some weaknesses that they need to improve. We’ll see how it plays out.
I understand the sentiment behind this post based on how we all perceive Gerry. But I have to believe all coaches say they value the things listed above.

Honest questions I’ve asked here before (this is not specific to you):

1. How does a coach like Gerry (especially since he’s new) convince portal players that his culture at Syracuse is any better than others?
2. How does he determine if a player “fits”?

You’re surprisingly optimistic about the portal and you’re usually more cautious. Do you have some inside info?
I think he’s confident because nobody’s really committed yet. It’s not like we’re getting passed by a bunch of guys.

He’s typically less optimistic than me about this stuff. I’m just wondering if he knows something.

I’m optimistic because we have a lot of money and not many big names off the board with guys still portaling. We’ve done a great job building the back end of the team and have key pieces on the wing. It’s now time to get studs at center and point guard.

Is part of it catharsis because you know you no longer have to watch a certain guard’s suspect defense?
