Class of 2026 2025-26 Portal

I'm sure good QBs will be lining up to sit behind Angeli, and getting 2 of them no chance. If the 2nd kid is no better than Collins then why bother.

I don't think it's quite as hard a sell, because Angeli isn't guaranteed to be ready to play next fall. He certainly won't play spring ball. Players don't come back as easily from an achilles as they can from the first time they have an ACL, That provides 2 guys to compete during spring ball.

Reach out to Drew Mestemaker, Micah Alejandro, Brad Jackson and ask them how much to sit behind Angeli for a year. All highly productive freshmen starters at North Texas, Hawaii, and Texas St respectively.

Angeli is not guaranteed to be the same player. Achilles tears are harder to recover from than an ACL.

I think one more post from you on Achilles tears and it might sink in to us all here that Angeli won’t be ready for a few years. Thanks for the education.

I don't mean to be that guy, but others saying we only need a back up in the portal are likely mistaken. That's why Fran said he's taking TWO portal guys. Fran realizes Angeli might not be able to play until October.

Can anyone name a player who worked out for us that came to our program following medical issues at another program? I can’t think of one. Hope we stop playing that game.
Dlineman from Bama, can't remember his name

Why might he not be able to play…..?

Recovery takes longer than an ACL, which is a year. (Angeli got hurt in October.)
Lots of guys, like Kobe, who came back in less than a year lost his explosiveness.

Elton Brand, LaPhonso Ellis, Aaron Rodgers, were never the same, and retired shortly after their injuries, as did Isaiah Thomas.

Kevin Durant was out for 18 months and said it was 2 years before he felt like himself again. He has missed nearly 40 games a year since coming back from the injury.

Would you say Klay Thompson is anywhere near the same player since he tore his achilles in 2020?

Dominque Wilkins tore his achilles, came back to manage one more good year before turning into a journeyman for the last couple years of his career.

ACL's are much easier to recover from with improvements in surgical techniques.

Achilles injuries are much worse in terms of recovery expectations. The guys we get in the portal had better be ready to play, that's all I'm saying.

I mean with the exception of Rodgers those are all Basketball players who rely quite a bit more on explosiveness from their legs, if Angeli is consistently jumping it means something is very wrong and Rodgers is and has played about as well as he was directly before the Achilles, he's just getting old.

Also, a lot of them were in their 30s when they were hurt. A lot of these injuries happened decades ago.

And besides being basketballl players, you targeted freak athletes. Steve is a good athlete and a football player. Look at what Rodgers has done with a body some 24 years older than Steve.

It would be shocking if Steve was not ready for the first game. It is possible but it is going to be 2026. We are talking about a ‘normal’ athlete 20 or 21 years old. Expecting him to take 12 or 13 months to play again is not a reasonable expectation

I guess we'll see. If I'm Fran talking to QBs in the portal, I remind them that they will get all spring to compete, learn the offense and develop chemistry with the other guys, and there's no guarantee that he'll be ready.

Just look at Daniel Jones - not a great athlete to begin with, and this is his third season ending injury. That's not 30 years ago, and not explosive athletes. (People get reinjured when they try to come back too soon, to be available for the pre-season.)

After how unprepared they were to just be competitive after Angeli went down, I think it's more prudent to prepare as though he won't be back until midseason.

If you were trying to say we need a better backup plan than last season, I agree.

"Explosiveness" is not limited to vertical movement. It's burst ability. It applies to linemen and running backs in football as much as it applies to basketball players.

As I said elsewhere in this thread, Daniel Jones, the former Giants QB, is only 28 years old and has had 3 season ending injuries already, including a torn ACL and now a torn achilles.

Frequently injuries happen because someone tries to come back too soon, before they are fully recovered. Especially in a contact sport.

Oh my bad, I qouted the wrong comment
I meant to reply to the poster that replied to me

You might want to get a grip on life and not be a clown on the internet
Anyway, enjoy your timeout/ban <3
That…was a bizarre exchange.
