Class of 2026 2025-26 Portal

Depends on how you look at it.

If you are only counting FBS teams, the math maths. I've seen reports that 4500 players are in the portal. If that is true and your assumptions are:
  1. FBS only
  2. 4500 is correct
  3. Each team has 105 players on its roster,
then 4500 / (105 * 136) = 31.5%. I'm sure that is their calculation.

But I think you have to count FCS teams. Then the math becomes 4500 / (105 * 264) = 16.2%

And that doesn't include players like Marcus Stokes from West Florida - the shiny new toy many folks around here want. West Florida is Division II.

That's my too long way of saying it all depends on your assumptions.

As to your last line, I tend to agree. Many things need to be fixed.
plus don't a high number of portals from FBS schools (e.g., non starters) end up transferring to FCS or DII (or even DIII) schools? That will make for some interesting stats once the current transfer process is completed.

Like the guys we're going after thus far. Not anything flashy yet but a bunch of these guys should be able to contribute. Would like to see some OL/LB/S looks next ideally. Definitely need a couple high end guys if we're to really turn this thing around for 2026 but depth is key as we saw very clearly this past year.
We have a lot of spots on the chessboard to fill, and if you can fill those spots early with quality albeit maybe not as flashy adds, then you can pool your resources for the battles later for the flashy guys.

Wisconsin, UNC, ASU, Iowa State all got QBs yesterday. There are only so many slots out there and a lot of solid QBs in the portal so let’s get a couple!

I like the multiple years of eligibility hopefully we can get him on campus. Fran knows the quarterback position was our biggest need and he’s ATTACKING it greatly. This kid can play

Not arguing but years of eligibility mean a lot less nowadays when a guy may still only be here for a year.

I think changes will happen with transferring every year like some guys are doing but we will see.

We'll see, not saying that in a sarcastic way. You'd think after the first couple of years with so many players left out, that would have happened and each year the portal entries gets larger. I'd like to think it's not sustainable but we'll see. Even if the amount that enter diminishes, it's not going to prevent the best players or players with the most upside on your team from potentially being poached. I do believe that still gives us opportunities we didn't have before though so in some ways it evens out if we can continue to have $ to buy players and evaluate strategically.

Yeah like what? Cause minority kids being pushed out of school and likely not graduating seems like a pretty important thing.
Everyone gets pushed out of something. What is the alternative each school has to keep that kid 4 years knowing that player won’t contribute? What if we had a team of 75 bad players and 10 good? You would be one of the first to say the teams bad and coaches stink and they need to get rid of everyone involved.

I don't know about you but I didn't get my education paid for to play a game. Nor did I get money from the school in addition to that. I took out massive loans and paid them back in advance so that others could get them after me. There are more important things. If you don't understand that, I don't know what to tell you. And it certainly isn't drag queens or any of the other nonsense you wrote about in your original post on this subject. Something about social warriors?

Based on morning visit news, transfer portal strategy seems very different this time. Whether for better or worse, we will find out overtime.
Has Fran lost his pounding mojo?

so these minority students who are say from the inner city of Queens should take out massive loans and stay in school because you did? They're being pushed out because of capitalism, from tax exempt entities making millions. AOC should be all over it.

All scholarships were guaranteed. Once they started to get paid it became a business. Players are leaving all the time. It’s all business decisions. Not a race issue. Also based on how fasfa works and scholarships if your from the inner city and have no money but have good grades most if not all your education is paid for.

It’s interesting to read the movement but sometimes I feel like coming back in two weeks so I know which players will be on the to to root for next season.

As I said, on the list of things to change and worry about, way down the list. This isn't the OT board, but I worry more about all of the kids that had good grades in high school and can't afford to get to college and won't because they don't play a game. And no, they shouldn't do it because I did it. They should do it because in the long run, it will benefit their lives. They did get a head start with their tuition, housing, food and books paid for while playing a game.

As of this morning, there are over 4000 players in the portal, with some outlets reporting it's actually closer to 4500. This represent over 1/3 of all college DI football players. STOP THE INSANITY!
