So this is true in baseball Monopoly money terms.

But explaining this stuff to my wife. Well, he got a raise from $5M last year to $22M this year. But there's no real guarantee that he gets anything after that. Oh.

I know the owners have railroaded free agency, but I have a tough time believing Grisham wouldn't have fared better on the open market. I wouldn't be very thrilled with him if I were a union guy.

I looked at 4 sites that had predicted free agent contracts for Grisham and I saw:
2/34, 3/44, 3/55, 4/66.

If his market is his first two, betting on himself and taking the one year deal at $22m makes sense. Then he goes into free agency next year with no compensation, and he is trying to get 1/12 or 2/22.

If his agent thought he could get $55 or $66 he should have left IMO. Thinking he could get 2/33 next year is a big gamble, given that last year was such a career outlier.
