Bill Belichick? No it’ll be better than Don. Not sure he can be a full time DC anymore. He’s up there in age. He just likes to get out of the house.

I doubt Erob is let go
Think it’s 2 yearsI thought assistants were on yearly contracts so there wouldn’t be any “firing” anyhow just not renewing contracts?
I’ve been wondering if he tries to pull in Muschamp. There were a lot of rumblings about him coming w Fran originally but he basically just stayed as part time analyst at Georgia which allowed him to go to his son’s games at Vandy. It’s a delicate situation. We will end up with an upgrade at DC, which is all that matters.
I don’t think Muschamp is ready to get back into coaching full time yet. He’s basically a consultant right now. His son is still at Vandy. Has two more years.I’ve been wondering if he tries to pull in Muschamp. It’s not embarrassing. He didn’t get the job done, you can do it with grace but at the end of the day it’s a business. Erob himself also isn’t a child, if he didn’t understand well that’s on him. He can also bounce back with his recruiting abilities. You really think Fran Brown is going to embarrass one of his closest friends and unceremoniously can him the day after the season? Yeesh.
He'll handle it delicately and with some grace. Good lord I know he's been pretty terrible but relationships matter in college football.
anyone is better than ERob. But I would worry that Muschamp has never coached at this level. It is a big jump and would take him awhile to adjust if he ever does. Plenty of examples of DCs failing at smaller programs and then going back to a bigger program and looking good again. It isn’t the concepts that fail but the fit with the talent.I’ve been wondering if he tries to pull in Muschamp. What? Muschamp had been DC at LSU, Auburn and Texas. I think that qualifies as having coached at this level..

When you make the big bucks you own the performanceYes, it is worth something, especially when we're trying to upgrade the roster. The DC sets the defense and calls plays. Position coaches coach up the talent.
Edit: i just saw that ERob is the DL coach.
That isn’t ACC or SU level. That is well above which was my point. I would prefer LSU’s DC because he has coached non future NFL kids. Or Toledo’s DC who has a strong pedigree. You have to go back to 2000 for Muschamp to have coached in a non major league. What? Muschamp had been DC at LSU, Auburn and Texas. I think that qualifies as having coached at this level.
EROB won’t be the DC next year. Not should heLook I get it. Fran and ERob go way back. Camden roots, Family roots, shared godfather, Temple, Baylor, now Syracuse. Lifelong friends, shared grind. Problem is, this isn't a buddy movie it’s a Power 4 football program. Loyalty’s fine but when it starts smelling like nepotism that’s when I call BS.
ERob’s resume is solid. Temple, Baylor, Texas A&M, interim HC, sure. But let’s be real: the defense at Syracuse has been a disaster. And Brown sticking with him no matter what looks less like the A in DART (Accountability) and more like "he’s my boy from high school, so he’s untouchable.’ That crap doesn’t fly.
This program needs results not a Camden reunion tour. If ERob delivers, great. But to date he hasn't. Fran’s gotta grow a pair and make the tough call. That’s what head coaches are paid to do. Otherwise it’s just nepotism dressed up as loyalty and I don’t give a damn how many recruiting stars you stack. If the defense keeps getting torched it’s all worthless.
Bottom line: friendship doesn’t win games. Production does. And if Fran wants to prove he’s building something real here, he’s gotta separate business from personal. Because every day he doesn’t it looks less like leadership and more like nepotism.
You think those schools hold a candle to Syracuse? What? Muschamp had been DC at LSU, Auburn and Texas. I think that qualifies as having coached at this level.
Lovely scented candles. Sandalwood. You think those schools hold a candle to Syracuse?
LOL. He is SO not coming here. I’m not sure which one, but someone had to say itI would suspect if any of the names still on the team are tied to good recruits and if they are being let go will not happen until after signing day.
Here are some names I wouldlike to see Fran kick the tires on (I get not all of these people would want to leave to come here, so PLEASE no need to say "LOL he is not coming here")
• Kyle DeVan – Chicago Bears (Assistant OL Coach)
Solid résumé, strong teacher, great reputation in the OL world. If he wants back into college or gets freed up from Chicago, he’d be a real option.
• Joe Tripodi – Wyoming (Offensive Line Coach)
Northeast roots, proven developer, tough/physical OL style.
• Jim Panagos – Former Rutgers/Minnesota (Currently Between Jobs)
Veteran recruiter with Jersey/Northeast ties. Physical coach, fits SU’s regional footprint and culture.
• Elijah Hodge – G5 LB Coach (Sout Dakota)
Fast-rising young coach. Strong teacher, energetic recruiter, exactly the type who jumps to a P4 opportunity.
• Tre’ Bell – (Charolette DB Coach)
New Jersey native, young, talented recruiter. Fits perfectly with Syracuse’s identity and Fran’s preferred staff model.
• Doug Shearer – ST Coordinator (UCONN)
Disciplined, detail-first coach. Special teams specialist.
• Jessee Schmidt - ST Coordinator (ND)
Strong energy, upward trajectory, senior anaylst is his current role might be willing to move on if given the full reigns at spencial teams
You lost your best player in Perry for almost the entire year to the bicep tear. Can't tell yet what Fran's take is on the team's failures. Is it top coordinator level - scheme, play call, big picture stuff? Is it the middlemen, translating the plan to the players and developing their individual skills? Is it the players and an insurmountable lack of talent? Or some combination? Until a coordinator gets the ax in some manner, we won't get any hint that the problem was the top-level stuff.
The DT's weren't awesome this year, but is that talent? Scheme? Position coaching? ERob is kinda responsible for all 3 of those things with that unit, so not sure who is going to be in a hurry to hire him for coaching reasons.
That you RutgersAl ?I’m hearing Greg Schiano is about to get canned at Rutgers. If that happens Fran should be on the phone yesterday. People forget how damn good Schiano has been as a defensive coordinator. At Miami he built a unit that ranked top 5 nationally and laid the foundation for their 2001 national title run. At Ohio State his defense in 2016 finished top 5 in scoring defense and churned out NFL studs like Marshon Lattimore, Malik Hooker, and Denzel Ward. Even at Rutgers, fighting uphill in the Big Ten his defenses punched above their weight. In 2023 they were top 25 nationally in total defense despite nowhere near the talent of the rest of the Big 10. That’s not hype that’s production.
Schiano’s New Jersey ties are unmatched. He owns that pipeline. He’s been pulling tough, gritty Jersey kids for decades, and we used to thrive on that exact DNA. Lately those players have been slipping to Penn State, Rutgers, and ACC rivals. Drop Schiano in as DC, pair it with the current staff's ties, and suddenly Syracuse owns Jersey again.
Schiano is fiery, detail‑obsessed, and demands accountability. He’ll rip into players for sloppy tackling and have them playing like their hair’s on fire the next snap. Syracuse’s defense has been soft, undisciplined and flat out embarrassing. You drop Schiano in and suddenly you’ve got a unit that plays with edge, swagger, and physicality.
TL/DR: if Rutgers cuts Schiano loose, we should pounce. Proven defensive mind, proven recruiter, and the Jersey ties that plug directly into Syracuse’s DNA. If Fran wants to stop the bleeding and actually build a defense that doesn’t get torched every Saturday, Schiano is the guy. Enough excuses. Bring in a proven Jersey grinder who knows how to win.
I like the outside the box thinking! Can’t stand shady but if he can turn our defense around, and I’m confident he would, I’ll hold my nose while I’m clapping! Not sure how I would do that but I’ll get it done somehow.Lol. No, I'm laying down facts. Schiano’s track record is there in black and white: Miami’s defense ranked top 5 nationally under him, Ohio State’s secondary turned into an NFL pipeline and Rutgers’ defense was top 25 in 2023 despite being outgunned in the Big Ten. Add in his Jersey recruiting ties, which we desperately need to tap more into, and the case is obvious. You can call it whatever you want but facts are facts. Schiano has proven he can build tough defenses and recruit talent. That’s not AI that’s history.
