2025 Fall Ball

Curious how Drew Stephens is doing on D. Stud recruit who missed senior yr with torn ACL. Was a physical menace prior.

I am now 90% sure he was the guy I saw out there looking excellent towards the end of the game. Believe it was #25, which he has on our current roster. If it was him, he made some excellent plays and had like 3 CTs. We will face much tougher competition, but still it was good to see.

Yes I'm pretty sure he was out there. He's probably still ramping up as I believe he was hurt last year to but he's got a bright future here and will push for a spot sooner then later.

A lefty (McCarthy’s a righty) twister finish to the far upper corner through 3 defenders is an insane amount of skill.

Lofty expectations, but that looks just like a Sam English goal. If he can have a 75% amount of English impact that would go a long way for the Spring. Like others have pointed out he didn’t really have an issue getting his shots last year, but really struggled with accuracy. If he’s gotten better there, would be a huge weapon. He can hold his own on defense and is good on the wings. Big shoes to fill, but he’s got the tools.

Agreed! And if someone else can contribute in that role a little, like McCarthy did last season, that would be big.

I think mcCArthy has skill n talent. As stated before last year he just more seem to stay in back or in shadow as some would say. Almost like he didn’t wanna try to do to much but instead didn’t try doing much of anything. Not sure if was confidence thing, or just nerves. He had moments where showed he had skills. Which made me wonder like why arnt ya doing that. This all more offense purposes of course. I just don’t think he was fully playing how he could. When he did shoot it was a struggle at times yes. Really hope someone gets or got in his ear this year n say “bro do you, don’t be scared play initiate n go!”

McCarthy had I believe a real nice goal vs Princeton in the tourney and looked better down the stretch. He also has cleary flashed in fall ball. That said I worry he's one of those guys that shines practice and just struggles to put it together when the lights come on. It would be optimal if he can put it together this spring and be a key cog on that 2nd line but I wonder if SU is missing the boat by not playing him at SSDM where he has looked more then comfortable albeit in limited playing time. Again I hope he has a big year at middie but if the first few games look like last year SU really should consider moving him full time to SSDM along with his wing play which has been very good.
