2025 Preseason Camp Thread

You could see Fran getting frustrated being asked the same questions over and over. He told everyone why he chose Angelli, but they still kept asking the same question. He even told them so. I wanted to know what players stood out in the scrimmage? What young player surprised you? Did the offense move the ball consistently? How’s the defense stopping the run? Is our defensive line getting in the backfield! Fran might not want to answer some of these questions, but asking him over and over about which quarterback demonstrates the best leadership is just lazy.
If you took a drink every time they asked about leadership you’d be dead quickly.

The new guy is meh. Taking about need to get under center and run the I or wing-t. Yeah ok genius.
Agree.

These guys are not qualified to do this kind of analysis and even if they were, they do not have sufficient access to the practices and scrimmages to ne second guessing the coaching staff. Maybe if the staff had a long history of bad decisions and bad win loss records.

This is more about two boneheads making a decision in a vacuum, being wrong and then crying about it.

Agree, please start asking questions the fanbase actually wants answered. Ones you keep forgetting to ask. Forget about your egos and bruised pride and pretend you are the journalists the PS pays you to be.

Oh, I suspected that was your motivation...love me some nostalgia, too! But, between Howard's and Jawhar Jordan's high school tapes, you would have thought that RB-U was "back" but unrealized, unmet, and unrealistic (sadly) potential were the norm for far too many years.

Enough of that...now we have HCFB and a future that is as promising as the Coach Mac years!

Howard had ball security issues which, given he he was a tank, was odd.

Interesting though re past vs current... we can now offer players at the position we see them best at vs offering whatever position they wanted so that we'd get them. Jordan probably should have been slot wr from day 1 aka Erv 2.0, and big generals leg injury probably should have put him on defense after lateral movement was noticeably hampered.

Miss having Hough's dad on the message board, he's great people. Same with Alec Lemon, Shy Cullen and BJ Johnson's fathers and I'm sure many others I'm missing.

This is what I was saying before, they're asking specific questions to fit the story they are writing, rather than asking broad questions about everything else. We don't have any actual beat reporters, they are all trying to do long form stories about singular topics.

That's a large part of the reason why we know nothing about this team's constitution and how we're going to look in less than two weeks.
"News" reporting in a nutshell the last 20 years.

Jesus, why is the default he’s out the door? Where’s he going, UConn?

That crap by your supposed beat reporter is why I don’t like this guy.

Because he is probably going to transfer. That's how this works now. I thought the article was pretty balanced but laid out the facts of the matter. Highly recruited prospects (especially QB's) are hot commodities across the country and his clock is ticking. Somebody will be, if not already in his ear. If Angelli takes the ball, has success and is line to be QB1 next year, it's almost guaranteed that Rickie will transfer imo.

If I remember correctly, didn’t Marrone let the local media (particular beat writer) in on his game plan and they wrote about it on Monday following the game? I may be remembering wrong, but I think it was something like that.

I just watched the Myles White interview...I agree with the other comments, he's a rising star in the coaching game. But, shame on the media. They carried the same repetitive QB questions from Fran's interview into the interview with the WR coach. I could see a couple questions relating to how the decision effects the offense or something, but the repetivness was very frustrating. WR is one of the most talented groups on the team, talk about them!
I kinda think we need a football guy who played or coached ask some questions. I can barely watch these anymore.

Totally agree. Even on the last podcast, Axe and Javon wouldn't stop saying that they truly believed that Fran wanted Rickie to win the job. Which is just a ridiculous take to have about a head coach

Syracuse center Austin Collins was a full participant in practice on Monday, shedding the green jersey that designated him a limited participant.

That’s important for the Orange, given the team’s lack of depth at center.

Freshman wide receiver and former CBA star Darien Williams exchanged his green jersey for a black one, which allowed him to participate in drills but labeled him as a non-contact participant.

The two biggest names who did not participate on Monday were tight end Jamie Tremble (muscle spasms in leg) and defensive back Jalil Martin (undisclosed injury).

Syracuse coaches have said that Tremble’s absence is precautionary. They have not addressed Martin’s absence.

You just need a competent beat reporter that knows what they're doing.

For all the (unwarranted) stick she got on this board, Emily Leiker was very good at it, and that's why she's in Minnesota now doing it for the Vikings. Stephen Bailey was also good at it.

Maybe I misremembered, but hasn’t that been an ongoing or at least, a recurring problem for him this summer? If it’s not typical hydration and/or electrolyte concerns, then my spidey-sense is tingling here. (That’s not a good thing, btw. I hope I’m wrong.)

Rickie was prepared to sit this year when he transferred. He has said as much because the staff warned him Kyle was a maybe to come back and even if he didn't come back, there would be an open competition. He knew they were bringing in another QB in the spring too.

The coaching staff is incredibly transparent with players that no playing time is gifted and is always earned. It's why some guys, like Barnes, leave. If you want a guarantee, you generally don't play for this staff. Just the way it is. Fran wants guys who aren't scared of competition.

If you've listened to Johntay's interviews, he was clearly miffed with past coaching staffs who he thought weren't transparent -- that they'd promise something and then things would change because they always had other plans. He liked that Fran was the opposite -- that he told him straight up the opportunity was to come in, work hard and replace Pena's production. He didn't guarantee him anything -- told him what the opportunity was if he worked hard and earned it.

Fran's a tough guy to play for but it's never due to a lack of transparency.
