2025 Preseason Camp Thread

Rickie was prepared to sit this year when he transferred. He has said as much because the staff warned him Kyle was a maybe to come back and even if he didn't come back, there would be an open competition. He knew they were bringing in another QB in the spring too.

The coaching staff is incredibly transparent with players that no playing time is gifted and is always earned. It's why some guys, like Barnes, leave. If you want a guarantee, you generally don't play for this staff. Just the way it is. Fran wants guys who aren't scared of competition.

If you've listened to Johntay's interviews, he was clearly miffed with past coaching staffs who he thought weren't transparent -- that they'd promise something and then things would change because they always had other plans. He liked that Fran was the opposite -- that he told him straight up the opportunity was to come in, work hard and replace Pena's production. He didn't guarantee him anything -- told him what the opportunity was if he worked hard and earned it.

Fran's a tough guy to play for but it's never due to a lack of transparency.
This is some great insight, and a testament to why Fran has been so successful in recruiting new players and keeping the players he wants around. I think it's a breath of fresh air to have someone so transparent and up front in today's game. Even if Fran is telling you things you don't want to hear as a player, you have to respect it, and know that he isn't going to lie to you just to keep you on the team. He actually has your best interest at heart.

agree with all of this but if Angeli is successful this year, do you think Rickie stays around to be a backup again? I don't.

If Angeli is successful enough maybe he won't stay in college another year

Thank you for mentioning this. In all that is written about Steve and Ricky, I haven't seen anyone mentioning that they aren't in the same class. Even if Angeli starts for the next 2 years, Ricky would still get a crack at starting year 3. Additionally, after this year's schedule, we are in a really great position moving forward schrdule, roster and recruit wise. Angeli may never get to throw to Calvin Russell at Syracuse

I would be more interested in an article about Jakhari Williams. How he is doing and what his future plans might be.
He does seem to be a little bit of a forgotten man.

Guessing he and Carney are scout team QBs.

Agree.

These guys are not qualified to do this kind of analysis and even if they were, they do not have sufficient access to the practices and scrimmages to ne second guessing the coaching staff. Maybe if the staff had a long history of bad decisions and bad win loss records.

This is more about two boneheads making a decision in a vacuum, being wrong and then crying about it.

Agree, please start asking questions the fanbase actually wants answered. Ones you keep forgetting to ask. Forget about your egos and bruised pride and pretend you are the journalists the PS pays you to be.

Bring back Kenny's 2 Pennies

In a interview the past week or so discussing QB's, Fran mentioned Steve and Rickie at QB fighting for QB1, then addressed Carney and Belin doing very well. Then after that mentioned Jakhari in a context which made it feel like he may be down the pecking order after them.

A little confusing when he says his brother is pretty similar in age. Does he know they are twins or not?
I heard those couple of minutes really set back the comparative development of the younger twin... That's why they held him back.

You just need a competent beat reporter that knows what they're doing.

For all the (unwarranted) stick she got on this board, Emily Leiker was very good at it, and that's why she's in Minnesota now doing it for the Vikings. Stephen Bailey was also good at it.

Donnie Webb was the gold standard for all those years.

Bailey was all about quantity of content. Overloaded you with videos from whatever parts of practice he watched. Did chats with us here which was great.

Emily was higher quality, but less quantity than Bailey.

We'll see on Javon. But I agree with others, that podcast from yesterday wasn't his best work.

I hope I don't find myself missing the bathroom selfies.

"Angeli to Cook" is going to be our second most common play by play call, after only "Willis gets the carry."

If Kyle leading the NCAA could only get drafted in Rd 6, I doubt Angeli will show up on any mock boards. His physical attributes are not good enough. Could turn out to be a great college QB, though, and that's all I care about.

To add to this, one of the coaches also had some positive things to say about Joe Filardi as well but i don't remember who said it.

I know Joe Filardi didn't come in with as much hype as others but he looked pretty darn talented to me in his HS highlights. I could see a situation where Joe is a guy that maybe wouldn't have as many transfer opportunities and sticks around for a while getting bigger, developing, and waiting his turn. The he eventually makes a contribution here at least as a back-up QB. I wouldn't be completely surprised to see him push for a starters role at some point either. Kid looks super competitive and like a gamer to me.

I am pretty sure he plays LAX at Cuse. He will likely stick around.

I'd be shocked if he's ever above 3rd string. There's too much talent and the transfer portal will always be a better option. Nothing against Filardi but being the walk-on QB in a class of 3 doesn't bode well.

I understand the situation and being a walk on the odds are long. But he seems like a kid who has a chance to surprise. I know the transfer portal is certainly a better answer at the moment in his young career. I think Carney wins out from that class and yes that may make it very hard for him considering they are the same year. But if Filardi stays and develops and Carney were to move onto the NFL after a junior season I could see a way Filardi plays a senior season or is Carney's back-up while here. I would guess in that scenario, Belin would eventually move on to a better situation where he can play. But yes they are pretty long odds. Just saying I like this kids potential and would like him to stick around and see what happens.

I hope you don't as well. I really do

Don't if you find yourself missing bathroom selfies I'm sure someone on the board can send you one before each game
