Same. Unless…they have more people buying passes because of the ability to easily transfer them with digital passes. But that wouldn’t account for the west lot.
 
It would be interesting if buying a selling digital parking becomes a thing,

Much like pro teams are cracking down on people buying STs and then selling off most of them.
 
they have a few issues going on
1) loss of inventory
2) letting people buy multiple passes
3) not letting people auto renew anymore
4) rewarding of recent money vs longevity in how the levels work is skewed a bit

when you have people who have had tickets/passes for 30+ yrs get jumped over because someone buys 5-6 nice seats or donates a few hundred the system is kinda broken. They are not really rewarding people who stuck around during the down years at all.

They should have just auto renewed people using the pt system for parking and not allowed all the newbies to jump to the front so easily. then you figure out the spots lost and how to deal with that.

The way its working now it sounds like anyone below the top 2-3 tiers is going to be lucky to find any spots at all.

I wonder if they even considered the fact that having tickets for x number of years and not buying parking that those people would be crushing so many long time parkers if those people suddenly decided to buy

If nothing else they should have saved some passes for people who lost out in a lottery or something,

Its the perk of donating I guess, I dont see at my level that paying a thousand to jump levels makes sense to get a parking pass that may not exist when my number is called anyway.

It wouldn't surprise me that going digital is a big cause of the issue going forward. Why not buy 2 when selling is so easy now. Still that doesn't explain the West lot going so fast. But if you have the means to buy nice seats you go up the pecking order, then you can buy additional passes and people in those same lots get locked out and raise the value of your own passes. Even if 10% of people who can, now by their 2 passes that's a ton of inventory gone. But what if it's even higher than that doing it?

Once you get a parking pass you should be able to renew it each year just like with season tickets. People shouldn't have to worry about losing their parking spot. SU needs to realize that tailgating is about family and friends, and it's a very big deal.

It's not just about parking your car.

And displaced Stadium West folks will be buying in new lots displacing those folks.

They are alienating a bunch of fans

I am just worried about telling my dad today. If they will let him back out of seasons he will, but I am sure SU is way too savvy and has already locked us in and now left us wondering where we will park. If it was just me I would park down at MLK, but my dad can’t be making that walk every game. Rough start to the weekend.

Very well said. I have never been to an SU football game and not parked in Fine/West lot and we have been joining in on Fine Mess/Syracruz for over a decade now. It was such a godsend when we moved and had a 2 hour drive each way.

What a buzzkill on top of an absolutely horrible home schedule with 2 Friday night games.

My theory is that IS happening which is why so many lots are full. I didn't get BBall tix this year so my level dropped, but when I chose my parking early yesterday morning nothing on campus was left. Usually every lot had an opening when I picked. Again my level is down but is it really enough to make that much of a difference? I think this is an "upgrade" process like with the seats. If I am wrong a lot of people are moving to Skytop this year.

I would park in MLK, but my wife can no longer make that walk up the stairs

I just think parking should have an auto renew feature, just like seats do. The only logical reason to be forced into a parking upgrade process each year is for extra donations. It's basically a shakedown. People should donate extra because they want to, not because they feel they have to in order to preserve their parking.

If I'm wrong here I'd sincerely appreciate being corrected but logically I can't see what else the reason would be.
 
The main issue is that from the sounds of it you better at worst be a level 6. The cast majority of people are level 8, that leap is almost $2000. Pretty steep to not even know you would get a pass. anyway

I think part of the issue is the curve from 6-7-8-9 money wise makes no sense really.

8-9 the only difference is a name in a program that you can't even buy anymore.
7-8 is a 20% off coupon at cuse.com which gets used by how many people?
6-7 is a Drumlins thing, again how used is that?

the reality is that most people are in their level based on seat purchase and longevity is gone out the window.

They raised the prices but they didn't adjust the donor levels, did they?

Perhaps 6-7-8-9 should just be grouped together. That would make longevity meaningful again for 75% of the STH in this process.

But something else has happened here and they need to get a handle on it. They have the numbers to see what happened. Still it's strange that one year later its completely changed. Perhaps donations skewed a ton of people and alienated the STH base?

How many spots are gone since the 90s when we had the big crowds? What if we start selling more tickets, even more people will be left behind. Parking is not going to get better.
 
School is going to do what it’s going to do but parking for sports events is a low priority. They make what $80K per head for every student, they make $250.00 per season parking pass. They have used almost every square foot they can for buildings where there used to be lots.

It’s what I said years ago, it’s more and more of a pita to go. For fans a 45k, multi use stadium in the open area around solar street in the inter harbor would have been perfect, tons of lots already, room for more and existing road net in all directions.

I get the school wants on campus, but it’s limited access , surrounded by buildings with significant elevation changes to get there. It’s as far away from easy to access as possible.

No something has changed. IMHO, inventory levels have changed in Stadium West.

I can't believe SU and ESF can't execute a simple agreement on that lot that is underutilized

Hopefully the I-81 construction can free up some more parking.

It is time to look at parking options in Thornden Park. Other teams use parks and golf courses on gameday. So can Syracuse.

Yeah but how big a drop has it been since even last year? 25% 10%?

Why not just have ESF get all the money from parking over cost of manning the lot if thats the issue there? There is clearly a demand. ESF could probably even charge more and still get it used and make money.

I dropped a level (or maybe two) this year but in past years I used to see openings in HILL and LYM, let alone the WEST lots. It seems crazy that everything around campus was booked this year. Especially since the majority of STHs haven't even gone yet.

yea I find it hard to believe it's anything but inventory levels going down. It's never been an issue till last year and this year has gotten worse.

I worry that more of those lots will be gone before long given other priorities and the fact that most other schools don't have such convenient parking options...so they're going to say, tough luck, park on south and tailgate there.

That used to be the case and would be possible if the parking inventory was stable. I don’t think this is the current scenario. Keep in mind that Athletics does not control gameday parking. That function falls under University Auxiliary Services. So if a premium A lot is eliminated or temporarily unavailable, those fans need to be accommodated. At one point all Dome employees and media had to park at Skytop and bus to the Dome for games. I get the impression that policy changed a bit last year as there were some issues getting back to Skytop after games and tear down activities were completed. Perhaps that expanded this year.
At any rate, the severe situation in West lots this week is not simply the result of newbies jumping the line or people buying incremental passes to resell. As cool as it is to have a Stadium in the middle of a main campus it creates logistical issues for both athletics and potential academic facility growth, particularly with the stated desire to relocate all student housing away from South.
This situation will only get worse in coming years and the decision to retrofit the Dome instead of building new at Skytop looks less pragmatic every year.
