2025 Yankees Season

How are folks feeling about the series? It seems that NY are the betting favorites.
A bit of unease with a team managed by A.B. It's too uncertain what the analytics dept might force him to do re lineups, rotation, & innings or pitch count. To do well will also require Aaron Judge to have more of an October presence. I suspect the NYY being favored to win its ALDS is based on a sugar high from last night's game.

You might consider NYY finished strong, (12 of 13?) while Toronto in September was like the kid with his finger in the dike.

Jays are tough but Bo being out is big. He was very, very solid this season. Getting his bat out of the lineup is a win for NY.
Particularly with 3 out of a possible 5 games started by lefties . Toronto’s lineup vs lefties without Bo is no bueno.

Also not sure if non-jays fans are aware, but your nemesis Vlad Jr has been awful down the stretch. His swing is totally off. He looks nothing like the actual Vlad jr. If that continues and with no Bo, this could be over quick

Toronto went 15-10 in September. A 97 win pace. They had a tough stretch in between game 151-158 where the lead shrank rapidly as the Yabks played AAA pitching staffs. But they did close with 4 wins to reverse that one week stank. It’s not really accurate to say they had a bad September.

I have the Yanks as favourites. Jays really had some middle of the road hitters play above their head which might not sustain itself .. add in the loss of Bo Bichette and Vlads poor play in last 20 and it will be tough to score with the yabks.

Gil has a good ERA since returning, but his peripherals have not been great. I think Warren earned the start, but maybe they believe Warren is a better fit in the bullpen than Gil.
They both had a 1 start against the Jays this year.
Warren got absolutely lit up for 8 earned runs in 4 innings and Gil pitched a beauty giving up only 1 run in 6 innings. Small sample but I’m sure those results had a lot to do with choosing the starter.

Fair enough. A "bad September" would have been one in which the kid pulled his finger and the flood came in (or, IOW, Yanks win the division) and it didn't happen. I've also thought about the timely hits from a half dozen guys playing above their historic range, and after sitting idly for a week it may be difficult to summon all those timely hits again. I think Vlad regains his stroke somewhat, but I also think they won't give him much to hit that's not a mistake.

And people say Boone is a slave to analytics. He so often does the opposite of what the data suggests.

One of the interesting factors in this series will be 2 starters both teams will rely on (Trey Yesavage and Cam Schlitter) whose start might make the difference win or lose. When the season started, I assumed nobody in either organization had them pegged as important pitching pieces down the stretch and into the playoffs.

New York seemingly had a bunch of experienced starters to start the season (part of the reason for the Cortes trade) and it blew up for them early. Toronto in late August, still had a 6 man rotation that did not have Yesavage. It took until September, but Toronto's veteran starters imploded down the stretch or got hurt, and Yesavage ended up claiming a spot.

Worried about the jays bats… Yankees should win this series as a jays fan. Just don’t have “that” guy to hit or pitch. We shall see.

Would love to steal game 1. Hope the bats wake up a little and get some early runs on the board for Gil
