2025 Yankees Season

how can so many MLB players not know how to slide at all? I dont think 1% know what they are doing

All the hours our coaches had us learn how to slide as kids. They dont teach it at all anymore at any level?

It is selective perception. Most MLB players execute perfect slides everyday.

my perception is that almost every slide is incorrect given the time and place they make the slide.

They slide into home off the wrong foot all the time. They slide way too early most of the time.

even give the use of head first slides into 2nd on steals. many times feet first would actually be faster if timed correctly,

I think “almost every” is an exaggeration.

Probably.

Just watch every game for a day and tell me the last time you saw a proper hook slide or pop up slide done correctly.

I dont think I have seen one hook slide all year.

Along with being faster, feet first is less area to put a tag down rather than shoulders
arms, back and head. And feet first is more intimidating, fielders with ball afraid of getting spiked, their hands stepped on or kicked. Fielders with ball are less aggressive and tend to shy away with tags with spikes flying into them. We're talking over a hundred years ago but Ty Cobb knew what he was doing, making a feet first slide a weapon.

I find the following more annoying -- hitters who decide it is their right to run the basis like total complete morons after they have a hit that drives somebody in. The amount of guys who get thrown out at 2nd or 3rd (after throws get cut off) is really annoying to me. There was no chance for the guy to get thrown out at home -- where are you running to idiot.

Feet first slides is a bit problematic under the new replay rules, where you can merely bounce off the bag a few inches and get called out.

Its much easier to keep contact of the base for some with a head first slide.
